High School Juniors - Your Current College List

My reaches:
MIT
Stanford
UCLA
Georgetown
U of Chicago
UPenn
Brown
Cornell

As of this point, I'm going for linguistics. If I wind up liking poli sci and econ after some courses this summer, I might almost completely revamp my list for IR.

Sungchul: woohoo linguistics! :D Our lists seem pretty similar, though I eliminated Georgetown for its religious affiliation and never considered Brown.

OBrienUM97: it bugs me too when people put UMich or Berkeley as their safety. It's like, NO, they're top schools, not unknown little state schools...

Virginia
Boston College
Harvard
Brown
Duke
Princeton
Michigan
Chapel Hill
Georgetown
Northwestern
James Madison

UMich (Saftey for LSA (Legacy), Reach for Ross)

UNC-Chapel Hill (my family is seriously considering moving to NC over the summer so that we qualify as in-state-any thoughts on this?) is changing HS for senior year worth it?

Northwestern
UCI-saftey, instate---i really dont want to go here...i live right next door :]
UCB
Wheaton
UNCA

Moving all the way from Irvine, CA to Chapel Hill JUST so you can be considerd in-state?

still need to narrow it down..

also maybe pepperdine..if only their Financial aid didnt suck

i know...but there's a BIG difference b/w instate and oos fees. Its double!!! and its not just for UNC, but also for Davidson, Elon, and others. To add to reasons why...my parents are moving to where ever I go anyways...so why not move now? u see? Living in Cali is expensive too...esp. places like irvine

...o btw, i forgot VANDY!

j-dom, unless you are so in love with UNC that you wouldn't be able to live if you went to school anywhere else, I wouldn't move to North Carolina from Cali. But that's just me.

true, i agree. but the most important factor for my family right now is COST. We cant afford the 40+ tuition for Umich and other schools for example. Esp since I want to go to med school after. THATS why we are REALLY considering moving, we would save A LOT!! with the in-state tuition. Its not that I can only see myself in NC. But it seems like to the best place to make the move...good schools, great cities, etc. Dont you think?

Why don't you go to a UC school as an in-state student?

we're definitely considering that too. but my parents dont want to live in cali any longer...they are more east-coast people. They want the HUGE houses with great big gardens and stuff (they have their dreams like the rest of us :]). i want to be considerate to their needs as well...at least i feel like i should be. i dont mind east-coast at all...although i have really grown accustomed to SoCal life.

I think you should do what you feel most comfortable with. If you feel more comfortable staying in Cali (I know I would), then stay in Cali. Your parents can put their East Coast dream on hold for 4 more years, can't they?

i most definitely would feel more comfortable staying here. hopefully they'll get the hint that i would reather stay. i dont want to force it on them though. but if they feel like it would be a better idea to move, i guess i dont have a choice.

thanks for the feedback btw, yankee. good luck on your college search!

Good luck, yourself!
