High School Parents/Students - Class of 2007

Elliotsmom- I am clinging to being a "Junior" parent!
Not quite ready to admit that The Senior Year is upon us... I feel that phrase "Do not go gently into the night..." when ever I face the beginning of letting go and although I am excited for my D's adventures I am also scared of the unknown and wish I could just hold her and keep her safe. Oh my I think this is what the kids would classify as Emo! Ok thanks for litening and it does help to move on knowing there are all of you out there too.
Harriet

No - not senior year - not yet........she's a baby......she's my baby....

I had a glimpse of the year to comeyesterday. Darling D is in a community theatre production called Everybody is a Somebody. It is a cute show and is really a end of session thing for the kids in an acting program. She was asked to be in the cast (there are 10 community actors in it) and has a lovely song she sings calle "Not Sure Where I Am Going" about a child explaining to her mother she is growing up and going away etc..... the song is a bit cheesy at times but in listening to it, and her singing it, I was crying!!! The folks sitting next to me probably thought I was a bit nutty but I was just overlaying the projected ups and downs and eventual departure next year onto the stage and it got to me.....

I am worried if this is how I will be for the next year- bring out the GIANT Kleenex!

MikksMom

Pass on the crying Towel! Next year's batch may be the teariest ever!

When I read about time to pass on the baton, I seriously think my heart skipped a beat!!! I can't afford that at my age! Can you tell we aren't ready for this yet? But I do know it's time...I guess we should all take this leap together!

My heart plummets everytime my daughter says "30 more days and I'm a senior"...I can't handle this...

HA!

This morning, my D said "My last Monday at X school!" She's exempt from finals, so she's done Friday and doesn't even have to go to some classes this week.

And graduation is next Thursday.

We're all doing pretty well around here, especially considering she is an "only", but the choirs and some select groupings sing before graduation. I'm not sure how her dad & I will make it through D and her good friend/neighbor singing "For Good" . . .

Addition: Maybe I should have put this on the "emo musings" thread. Sorry!

I was wondering if anyone knows how to slow down time? It's going much too quickly now and I am not ready for her to go....it's an emotional roller coaster of a year.
Advise to all you Jr. parents and children.....enjoy every minute! The next year will fly by too quickly. Try not to stress out...things all will fall into place, and stressing doesn't help or change the outcome anyway! Keep things organized, send out applications and set up auditions as soon as you can. Organization is the key...we kept a chart and a folder of all the schools requirements for auditions and the audition date...gave them to all of d's coaches as well as for us!! Also, know something about each program that made your s/d want to apply there because some schools will ask questions at the end of the audition, and sometimes it is...why did you pick this program?
Just my little advise to you up and coming parents on the road to MT. Good luck, and make the most of it all!

My D is a junior, my D IS a junior, my D is still a junior...

Did you know it costs $62.00 for late registration for the SAT.
And the FINAL deadline for this June 3 test is WEDNESDAY.

Rathersing,

Yep, I know it. Just paid the extra fee on Friday when my daughter signed up to take the SAT on the 3rd! Hopefully it will be money well spent and she will do well!

Ah TexanMom I feel for you...my day will come all too soon! I can't believe how junior year absolutely FLEW!!!

My d got into InnerSpark at Cal arts for Dance. But Mt is her passion.

Thanks so much! Some of those we have looked at and I am going online to research the others.

FIgured it was time to BUMP as we will be SENIOR moms/Dads SOON! AUGHHHHHHHH!

We are in the planning stages for Fall 06 to knock out some early and then do Unified in NYC in Feb for a big list. Dad says "Eh, it's only money!" I am trying to be realistic here......gee....who has time to go everywhere? Cleveland/ Boston/ Carolina..........oh my word!

Working on our calender and D has her list for summer to do apps. In between CAP sessions.....

I cannot wait! Where is everyone else?

You two sound so together...My d's studing for finals...recouping from Mono... in denial that it's her time now. I'm lost reading threads...I feel like we need to make a trip to see CoachC to get her opionion on where to apply .

My daughter auditioned and was accepted for two apprentice positions in local professional MT productions, one for the summer, one for the fall. She'll be in a named role in one repertory group production (with a real line to speak on top of chorus duty!), and in the chorus in a small-cast professional production for which she gets paid!

She's decided not to go the M/T college application route after a visit to Elon, and instead we're still looking for that perfect school combining a challenging LA curriculum with the ability to become involved in M/T. The thought of having to spend four years in a place like Elon or to be so limited in the scope of courses and electives elsewhere just didn't appeal to her. She'll still sing whenever the chance arises and we've still not found the right school. This summer we'll be visiting JMU (not high hopes for her liking it much), William & Mary, and American U., to see if any of them warrant a more in-depth visit when classes resume in the fall. And we're still headed to Wesleyan and Brown in the fall, as well.

I still value the support from this site and wish you and your children all the best in pursuing their dreams.

Today is my daughter's last day of school...then officially a senior! I still can't believe it! She has a list of about 12 schools that she would love to audition at (still not sure that she will actually apply to all 12). If the audition schedules are basically the same as last year, I think she may do only 3 in the fall and the rest in Jan & Feb.

The only good thing about my husband being a constant traveler is the amount of frequent flyer miles and hotel stay he racks up! So, if time allows, my d wants to try not to do the unifieds if at all possible and audition at each school in person. We'll see.

With tomorrow being her first day of summer break, she will be spending it buying her books for summer reading and trying to get those finished and the projects associated with them done before she leaves for CMU pre-college in 2 weeks! AHHH! She also has plans to start her essays....it's going to be a busy summer for her for sure!

Prouddad -

Congrats to your D.

You say <<my daughter="" auditioned="" and="" was="" accepted="" for="" two="" apprentice="" positions="" in="" local="" professional="" mt="" productions,="" one="" the="" summer,="" fall.="" she'll="" be="" a="" named="" role="" repertory="" group="" production="" (with="" real="" line="" to="" speak="" on="" top="" of="" chorus="" duty!),="" small-cast="" which="" she="" gets="" paid!="">></my>

That's fantastic news! Good for her. I have a question, though: what does it mean to be an apprentice? I would love to hear more about this, as it is not something I am familiar with. Does this mean that she auditioned for a part in a professional musical (Equity?) and got into the chorus, and will be able to accumulate Equity points? Forgive me if this is self evident to everyone but me, but I am not familiar with apprenticeships in the theater and would love to know more about how this works.

I also congratulate your D, as well, on her realization as to what type of college program she is going to want to pursue. I haven't been through the college process yet, but I would imagine that figuring out what focus one wants (or doesn't want) is half the battle. (The other half, as we are all reminded so frequently :) is getting in.)

Best,
Lisa

I think I finally found the thread I have been looking for. After lots and lots of pages and binders full of incredible insight from this forum I am checking in with all you other "Junior" now "Senior" (or so they think) MT kids. I am feeling very overwelmed at the college process. S has been talking about his dream schools for 2 years now and all of a sudden it is upon us. I am feeling like we are behind in what we should be doing. Reading some of these posts alot of you have already toured your propective schools last year or the beginning of this year. We have only toured one. If I could ask some of you wonderful CC parents that just got done with this wild adventure to post some kind of a timeline as to what we should be doing now, what we should already be doing, and what we should have already done in terms of applications , auditions, and visits. I WOULD BE FOREVER IN YOUR DEBT. I cannot believe how stressed I am feeling already and we have not even begun!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND LIFE SAVING INSIGHT

I am very new to the posting on these boards, I have been "lurking" for quite some time. I know this will sound stupid but what does it mean by "bumping"? In an earlier post it said it was time to "bump" because the kids are now seniors. Thanks again :)

Bumping means to bring a board back up to the top by posting on it. It allows people to find it without having to look through 20 pages of posts.
