I know most of us here are overachievers and all. The type of kids that have an amazing academic record and stuff. So I want to ask you all:

You know how they portray the high school experience? You know, alot of partying? And beautiful scenes in the beach with your friends and a whiskey bottle? And driving around and having tons of fun? And doing all these incredibly fun-looking/crazy things?

Is that the truth? 'Cause it's never happened to me.

I mean, yah I go out and everything, but it's never like its "supposed" to be- a bunch of friends going here and there like everyday of the week.

Is it really supposed to be like that? Or is it just me??? None of my friends are like that.

Am I the weird one and not taking advantage of these years????

yeah i seriously expected the movie version of high school. like i seriously thought parties would be like from movies like "girl next door" and "ten things i hate about you"; they are small and usually uneventful but they do have lots of alcohol (at least they got that part right). my school doesn't really feel like a high school since its k-12 private school but yeah i definitely know what you mean

So I AM the weird one then? I dunno... I'm really pretty so there's always alot of guys asking me places... the thing is... I dunno.. Im so serious! I truly do love learning so I figure out something awesome on physics or something I tell everyone and then they think Im such a bore. And then I think they're bore for not finding something so exiting interesting.

And there's all these other times when people try to talk to me just when Im reading an amazing book so I read instead and then they think im so boring. But compared to the book, I think they're boring.

I've never fit in. Why?!??!?! Not even with the smart kids. I do fit in to hang out with a little while you know. But not as a person thats "in" the group. Any group.

sighs Ok, so judging by your replies, high school IS supposed to be like that.

A movie is to life what a highlight is to a sports game: they cut out all the boring stuff and show you just the most exciting parts. If you can come up with around 2 hours worth of great fun over the past few months, you're as good as any movie.

Also remember that in movie-land, people can have spontaneous unprotected sex without any consequences, and cheesy ice-breaker lines, contrived by some unshaven overweight "writer", are considered extremely witty and cute by beautiful girls.

I go to the beach and party a lot like some movies I guess. It isn't that much of a stretch, some parties I go to are just like movies about high school.

Partying is pretty big at my school but my friends have never been into partying, so I never did. I went to my first party a week ago (I graduated in June). I guess I'm essentially saving it all for college.

You guys might as well practice now. When you get into college you're not going to know your limits and make a fool of yourself. Or worse, get taken advantage of.

We don't have parties like that where I live. Small groups of friends hang out and get drunk/high... but no schoolwide, giant parties. I don't really feel as if I'm missing out, because I've enjoyed my high school experience =)

Well don't let movies tell you how to spend your high school years. You usually have the most fun when you AREN'T trying. What's creepy is how you think you need for example "a bottle of whiskey" to fit in that "image" of how to have fun. You're overthinking... just be yourself and enjoy your friends, etc. Let it come naturally. If you don't think that you're having enough fun, then make plans more frequently. Start there. Don't start by driving around and gulping down cans of beer.

Also realize that all those movie and TV actors never got to party like the "normal" high school students they portray because they were too busy starring in commercials while they were young. Kind of sad if you think about it.

hmm, my high school life was akin to what was seen on the movies or pop culture tv shows like "Laguna Beach" or "The OC." the setting was simply the midwest, instead of beachy california.

the only reason my high school life was like that is because of the people i surrounded myself with. all of my friends can be considered average (i guess) and were always more preoccupied with where they could get more alcohol or where the next party was, instead of studying for AP exams.

i just did my work on my own, and then partied on the side. however, i will admit that there is a delicate balance. a few times i had to skip out on parties and such cause i had standardized tests or college interviews.

Yea...No Parties for Tritium...Well none like the ones you describe...

Mainly those kind of parties were thrown by the preps and I'm not in their group, actually I didn't want to be in their group...

Eh, doesn't bother me that much. I do have my own group and we had our share of fun. Just none found in pop culture tv shows or movies. Oh well..hopefully college will be fun
