High School Research

Can conducting medical research in high school significantly improve your chances of acceptance in to one of the nations’s top schools? The research I’m currently conducting is on track to go to state and national level competitions, symposiums, and fairs. Also, would this help my chances of being accepted in to a guaranteed entrance to medical school program (or something similar)?

Well, it would definitely look good as an E.C. or essay topic. However it’s hard to guarantee what competition you’ll be against with other applicants. What schools are you thinking of applying too? I’m having the same dilemma now. I want to do some research for cosmetics and then another research project involving a medical idea. I just can’t come up with a thesis though :\ I think you have a good shot though! Especially if it’s going to go to a national level.

I’ve never heard of a “guaranteed entrance” medical school program. Are you talking undergrad or postgrad? Regarding your first question, you know damn well the answer already. It can’t hurt your application.

It sometimes is called a 6 year program (undergrad+post grad). If a student is accepted she or he needs to participate in various medschool activies and score above the national average on the Mcat.
