Hello! What are some scholarships that High School Sophomores can apply for? I've tried looking online, but the only ones I could find that high schoolers could enter were for Seniors.
Help?!? Thanks!

What do you want the scholarship to pay for?

If you are looking for college scholarships, you will not find very many for sophomores in high school. In fact, you won’t find many for juniors. There was a junior at our kids’ high school who got a $25,000 award…I don’t remember the exact sponsor but it was a very unique situation.

Most folks awarding college scholarships want to do so based on how a student does during MOST of their high school years…so do so when the students are seniors.

There are things you can do however that might increase your chance of getting a scholarship when you are a senior.
Are you a writer? Many magazines are looking for submissions.

There was a young man several years ago who wrote a book and went around speaking about how to pay for college with outside scholarships. He talked about getting scholarships in the early years of HS. Unfortunately his entire plan works for probably less than 1% of the college students, but it sure sounded good!

Agree, that the best way you can work towards meaningful scholarships is to keep up your academics and take advantage of all academic and EC opportunities available to you.

Another hint, if you’re needing significant amounts of money, look at institutional merit aid offered by colleges. Applying for outside scholarships is fine, but the big ones are extremely competitive and the smaller, local ones are helpful, but usually for hundreds of dollars and only for fr year.

Okay, thanks for all your help.
