High School's Academic Integrity

I heard that colleges only look at a high school's integrity if they're nearby or they usually have an idea of the rigor from kids who have graduated that high school and applied.

So, I just want a definitive answer to this, because my high school is in the top 15 in my state out of 828 high schools for being "challenging" as well as a decent mid 500 in the nation. I know that it's an independent study that may hold no ground, but to me it seems quite unfair if high schools with less "challenging" classes get treated with the same consideration with tougher, more rigorous high schools.

Also, I'm curious as to how much (probably not a lot) colleges look at this, and if their special admission calculations also account for this.

Oh, and if you're looking for the Ranking, it's credibility, and potential bias, the results come from the recent 2014 Washington Post survey.

Top schools divide their admissions officers into regions so they tend to know the top HS in their area pretty well. Small schools with larger regions assigned may not reach as deep, but there does seem to be sort of a grapevine among the top schools - they all know where to find the top candidates and know the academic reputation of all the top HS.

If anyone from your HS has applied in the last few years to the school you are interested in, particularly if they were accepted, trust me, the colleges know who your HS is.
