I received a letter today that I was accepted in to the Hilltop Scholars Program. I went online and accepted the invitation about 20 minutes ago. I just received an email saying I am already on the waitlist!!!
I am so disappointed as I really want to be a part of that program! Does anybody know what my chances are to make it off the waitlist and in to the program?
Thanks!

Have you sent in your housing deposit yet? As I recall, they will not accept you into the Hillstop or Second Centory scholar programs until you have paid your deposits indicating that you are going to attend.

Turns out it was a glitch in the system and there is not a wait list yet. It was corrected this morning and I am in!!!

Congratulations! Joining the Hilltop Scholars program was one of the best decisions I’ve made during my time here at SMU. You will love it!

clairepeep-could you possibly describe your experience with the hilltop scholar program?

Sdirish - Sure! My freshman year, I decided to join the Hilltop Scholars program after receiving my invitation in the mail. I was unsure of exactly what the program was but I’m so lucky I decided to join. It shares a lot of similarities with the Honors program - it emphasizes community and learning. But it mainly draws students who have shown dedication to leadership, volunteering and community service as HS students (not suprisingly, these are usually a group of smart, talented students). The HSPers are outgoing and friendly - I made friends the very first day that I am close friends with even now (I’m a senior!) They participate in events together - intramurals, community service, dinners, movies, exploring Dallas - which makes it even easier to get to know people and feel at home. I felt that all the things I liked to do - leadership, community service, academics and having a fun college experience - were values that the other HSPers shared. Being a part of this community definitely made my transition from HS to college much easier. It undeniably impacted my freshman experience in a positive way and set me on the right track for the rest of my college years.

I loved it so much that I came back the next year as an R.A. in the Hilltop Scholars program and once again - had a blast! Definitely consider joining this program.

Copied this post from another thread. PerunaTonic, a friend of mine, has a pretty spot on description of HSP:

I was Hilltop Scholar and it was a great addition to my college experince. The number one reason students are skeptics about the program, is because they struggle understanding what it is and if the dorms are not as nice.

The dorms are older, but they are the largest rooms and the doors say open so your friends can come visit you when ever they want. Honestly, at the end of the day, your dorm experience will be less about how nice it is and more about the quality of people around you. Hilltop is best of both worlds, because all the kids have clear ambitions and generally fun/good kids. This attracts a variety of kids. You have outgoing kids and quieter involved kids, but because everyone is generally movativated. Everyone respects each other and they are more open minded. The dorms are less crazy then the “party dorms,” but believe me, there are Hilltop scholars who how to party, but they won’t bring recklessness back with them like other dorms.

Hilltop scholars get access to:
-the scholars den for studying and free coffee
-hilltop only classes
-get to take classes in the dorms
-hilltop exclusive events
-you can put it on your resume

Basically, you both sound like the mesh ofa Hilltop student. Hilltop is literally the best dorms because you mix of great people. No matter what dorm you choose, your not limited to your dorm to make friends. Most of my friends were in Mac, but I loved Hilltop, because I also had a different set of friends there.

Long story short, if you have been invited you might as well do it. Its a lot of fun and it was one better decisions I made at SMU.
