Looking back at the admissions process, I have only two takeaways for this process. As an international student from a hyper competitive country (China/India/S.Korea), I underestimated the difficulty of college admissions to the US. Here are the 3 top tips that I would give:
-
Essays are more important than you can ever imagine. I never believed in this, until I saw mine and my friends decisions. DO NOT neglect your essays at all
-
Acing (2300+ works, 2350+ is ideal) the SAT is the easiest way to improve your chances of admissions. The SAT requires focus and practise, and is comparatively easier than doing impressive ECA’s or getting perfect grades all the time.
-
Apply to more safeties, and colleges those that offer merit aid, like Vanderbilt, Duke, Drexel and UAlabama.
