I visited Bing yesterday and really liked Hinman and Dickinson. I couldn't find much information on either, except that some posts said Hinman was more studious and heavily Asian. (The Asian is fine although I wouldn't want to be the only non-Asian in a suite, but the studious is not so appealing.) Is that true? I liked the location of Dickinson and the emphasis on community service at Hinman. Are people in Hinman really into community service, or is that just one class (living/learning community) that is offered by one professor?

Hinman is considered “studious” because they are generally quieter buildings. The dorms are suite style so socializing isn’t generally floor-wide (depends on the building/floor, but that often means the floor is much quieter) so the “studious” stereotype pops up.

It’s really that particular living/learning community that is service oriented. I haven’t heard a “service oriented” stereotype about Dickinson. The dorms aren’t in good shape though- especially since they will be tearing them down in a few years.

I wouldn’t really call Hinman heavily asian, just a higher percentage of asians than other communities. The asian frats seem to be Hinman, while the other frats seem to mostly be in Newing. I lived in Hinman for 2 years and never saw a randomly placed all asian/all but one asian suite.

The studious part really depends on what you consider studious. I wouldn’t say studying in the library Friday/Saturday night is normal behavior for the vast majority of the people living in Hinman. However, if you want to party every night, you’d be better off in Newing.
