"Hippie schools"

I definitely already have the list of schools I’m applying to and most of the deadlines have passed for other schools.

I agree with poetgrl.

I agree with poetgrl,too.

Hmmm, nope, this time I disagree with poetgrl. ;)

What did poetgrl say? Or on what page?

Bump… Repeating my old post

Bringing this thread back! Can anyone comment on the hippy-ness of my college list?

Basically students who are involved in social issues, care about the environment, wear and do alternative things, etc.

Colorado College
Earlham
Grinnell
Macalester
Pitzer
Swarthmore
Wesleyan
Willamette
Whitman

Old thread going back to 2005, start another one and close this one is my suggestion!

Based on your post on a Macalester thread I’d recommend Wesleyan, if you are fortunate enough to get in. You seem like you would fit in well there.

I would look at Beloit as well.

thirdplanet, I’m only familiar with some of the colleges on your list, but I’d say there are plenty of hippies at Grinnell and Earlham, and probably Macalester (though when we toured a few summers ago I didn’t really get that vibe since it has such a strong international focus). I also didn’t get that vibe at Wesleyan (which seemed more hipster) or Swarthmore.

Thanks applemath that’s a helpful comment. Are students at wesleyan still active in social issues? Hipster is fine as it’s not pretentious.

When I toured Willamette, it seemed there was a stronger “hipster” vibe, though certainly not near L&C levels, than hippie. Of the PNW LACs, University of Puget Sound and from what I’ve read Evergreen State and Whitman, are the biggest hippie schools.
