I've heard both that there are a lot of hipsters at USC and that it's all frats and sorority life. I'm pretty sure another site listed USC as a hipster school. I'm thinking hipsters as in comparison to NYU hipsters. Anyone know anything about this? And are they like apathetic hipsters or like cali hipsters?

Most people at USC are not in frats and sororities. I can’t really describe what type of hipsters there are, but USC is pretty diverse in its student body.

Can you describe what you think a hipster is?

Pretty much someone who’s not into mainstream things (for example with music and clothing) and is very liberal.

My son and I visited USC two weeks ago. It is a large university with quite a bit of diversity. While there was a plethora of shockingly attractive people on that campus, there were also plenty of normal/average people of all shapes, sizes and colors. We saw jocks, hipsters, geeks, Greeks and everything in between. I feel like you could be anything you wanted to be at that school and there would be at least a few folks who would swing your way.

Keep in mind that it is California, so everything is a bit mellowed. The preps, for example, were not as preppy as the kids at Vanderbilt and the hipsters at 'SC were not working as hard to be alternative as some of the students at the LACs we have visited.

I often wear a sweater vest with a tie and a pair of chucks. Someone on campus called me a hipster. :(

My child goes to USC…have to agree with cbrand. You can be anything you want there but as far as the ‘aggressively cool’ New York brand of hipster (we are from the east coast), that’s not really a theme. Anyway - are frats and sororities considered hipster hangouts at NYU? I kind of seriously doubt it.
