I loved that class so much. Seriously. I had the best GSI I have ever had at Berkeley, and the professor (Anderson) was just superb.

I read everything for that class because it is pretty intense, and the discussions are well-structured enough to make reading mandatory. The workload is a little bit high, but it's well worth it. I say take it. You do have to work for an A, but it's worth it.

100% agree with needadvice. although, i don't think anderson is teaching it this semester so it is hard to tell in that regard. if you like history i'd say to take it and if you don't, don't. i'd really need to to know what other classes you're taking in order to assess. it really was a great class.

There are 7 or 8 books required for that class, and I'm feeling like I might be overloading my schedule.

Well, if you're not the reading type, you've got to be smart about this. Let's be honest. Most if not all of the works assigned for History 5 are on Spark Notes or similar sites. Don't hesitate to use those resources. It's more than enough than you need for section. Writing essays might be hard if you don't look at the book, though.

Laquer? I've heard he's ridiculously amazing, and one of the most proflific publishers in the history department.

It's doable if you're willing to do it and what you're used to doing. If you're used to a good amount of work, you'll be in good shape. You might want a lighter load for certain reasons, but if you prefer being most busy with work, and you'll be fine with the amount of time you'll have for non-school activities (which can be a good amount if you work efficiently), you'll be fine. you can always drop a class if it seems too intense.

He is in fact a ridiculously successful academic. But also a marvelous teacher. He got his BA from Swarthmore College and models his teaching on the LAC "experience" - much like the other History 5 professor so many student love: Margaret Anderson.

Awesome! Okay, I think I'm going to go ahead with this class. It's just that I want to have a job on campus as part of work-study and what not. If I can't deal with it, I'll drop another class instead of this one.

yeah, looking at your schedule it looks trying it out would be the wise choice. it's good to hear that laquer is also a good prof (swat is a ridiculous school).
