History Major?

How good is Cal’s history major comapred to UCLA’s? Also, what could a history major offer be in career options?

Our history department is considered very good. I'm not sure EXACTLY where its ranked, but I know its in the top 10 if not the top 3 or 5.

As for career options, that should NOT be a determining factor in what your major is. Do what you love. You can pretty much do anything short of science or eengineering with pretty much any liberal arts degree.

i believe cal's history dept. is ranked number 2, tied with princeton

I'm sort of stealing this topic, but I have another question.

For a history major, which would be better: Cal or UCLA honors program?

I'm pretty sure he likes the atmosphere at Cal better, and he definitely prefers NorCal, but he's learning towards UCLA for some reason.

I'll probably ask this same question on the UCLA board if there isn't anyone in the know about the honors thing.

Thanks though!

hmmm...I'm considering the same thing between UCLA and Cal as a History major...but I'm almost definitely going to Berkeley...the honors presentation scared me...lol

i'd say berkeley is better than UCLA's history program..............

well, I have a friend who's a history major at Berkeley and he says it's the best in the nation

i have a friend in the history program..he told me that most of the professor's are very liberal and just teach from their liberal points of view...so beware with the history program that you probably won't be getting both sides of the story 100% of the time

ha! and when do we get both sides 100% of the time?... ;)

Why even compare Cal to another public school? Seriously... I've noticed the debate die down lately. You'll see what I mean when you get here.

cal is def the most amazing public school

FYI - In a recent interview, the new Berkeley chancellor was asked who he considered to be the #2 public university in America--U of Michigan or U of Virginia. "Are you kidding?? Neither one--UCLA is!" was the answer. "And if we don't start doing a few things better, UCLA will be #1." So I think you can almost flip a coin--you'll get a good education at either place.

yeah, better do something. hope he is doing what he promises to do.
