What school has the best History department for Military History. World War 2 is what I am obessed with and want to study. Can you also name a few careers I could make out of this when I am done. Thanks. - BC1993

Have you given any consideration to a service academy (West Point, Annapolis)?

No, I know they excellent History but I do not plan on joining the military anytime soon. Thanks though. - BC1993

Almost any decent history department will have at least one military historian or WW2 expert on staff.

Here’s just a few sample programs:

Ohio State

GWU

Kansas State

Thanks I will check those out right now.

BC1993,

I too enjoyed studying WWII history as a young person. HOWEVER, I would caution that trying to study the history of military operations without the context of experiencing military culture firsthand or participating in the chaos of military operations as they unfold will give you a flawed perspective.

My 2 cents for what it is worth. A sincere good luck in your studies.

Yea I’ve known that for a long time coming. But thank you though.

There aren’t any…your focus is too narrow. What you described is not a career, it’s a hobby

Florida State’s Institute on World War II and the Human Experience: [The Institute on World War II and the Human Experience](http://www.fsu.edu/~ww2/index.html)

It has an endowment from Tom Brokaw: http://www.fsu.edu/news/2009/03/23/brokaw.gift/

awped is somewhat correct. you could become a history teacher basically

Yes, because we all know that history majors – which typically make up 10-15% of a college classs – only become history teachers, right?

A history major is very flexible. It’s true that it doesn’t specifically prepare one for any one career, but you can do quite a bit with it.

For example:
[Career Services, University of Pennsylvania](http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/college/majors/hist.html)

Obviously…but the OP was inquiring about careers related to his major, not whether he could become a financial analyst at Barclays

^
Eh, you can’t assume that. His question was vague.

Even if that were the case, there are many career paths one could take. Off the top of my head, I can think of working in a history museum, being an archivist, being a researcher for the History Channel or something similar, working as an editor for military history books, etc.

'Cause the History Channel needs MORE WWII stuff… haha

^lol the history channel job is the most competitive and most sought after.

yes my point right there I’m going to major in history but more focus into world war 2. I have been thinking about becoming something like a College Professor or working in a museum. I love learning about any war in that time period but my Specialty would be on world war 2. Thanks. - BC1993

We call the History Channel…The Hitler Channel because of the frequency of shows about Germany and WWII

Yea I love to watch them when I see that there on. Some of them don’t seem very head on sometimes. like they missed a point here and there but there still pretty fun to and interesting to watch.
