HKU or HKUST

How good is HKUST's scholarship or financial aid program? How competitive is it?

lol for the Peking-duck education system I was just kidding only! This applies for junior-high school only, but certainly not for universities =p HK universities encourage students to be all-rounded, and there are many different interest groups in the universities.
By the way you got a nice CV compared to mine! I am never an honor student:(
In contrast, I only did some service and school band performance.

yes i am planning to go to universities in HK, along with universities in the UK.
The main reason is that universities in HK and UK are relatively cheaper for me as they see me as a domestic student in which I actually got both British and HK citizenship(I was lucky to be born before 1997 to get full UK citizenship even though I have never been to Britain =p)

as for rubichino, yes, I think his percentiles are okay but bear in mind that international applicants are a lot easier to apply there, whereas the local (HKALE) system is more competitive as it has more students(36 thousands-ish) to compete for only 8 universities in HK! As a result, half of them cannot proceed to HK universities.
In comparison, International students are less competitive since HK universities want more diversity for their college environment.

@capitalist- o, ok, i thought you might have just meant junior high because ive heard the uni education teaching style being very good and encouraging creativity. i think i was thinking more mainland ideas...but i dont really know..do you live in the US? the honot student thing is something that US does, would elaborate but i gotta go

@ capitalist

How do you make your text bold?

Also what are you planning on studying? Law perhaps

I think I have a good idea of which universities in HK you prefer from your previous threads.

You are very lucky to have dual citizenship.

BTW capitalist you sound like youre a bit older, maybe youre just very mature but you know quite a bit about this stuff.

Hi, sorry for not posting for a few days since I was in school camp

ha, even though I frequently mention American topics like SAT, I’m not a US citizen, nor I had once lived in the US. I visited Silicon Valley, CA once, yet most of my knowledge about American topics comes from textbooks, news and Wikipedia.

As for my major, I’m still unsure about it. The scenario after the financial tsunami is disastrous, many workers are laid-off, jobs are gone, and there’s no virtually not quite much hope for Business people, especially financial engineering workers working in Investment Banks. As you can see here, my major concern at the moment is “how to get myself rich”, and the situation here isn’t good, so there’s some degree of uncertainty for my future.

By the way I’ve once been to the Paradise Island in Nassau, the Bahamas, where there’s beautiful beaches and the Carribean sunshine looks refreshing! Unfortunately that’s a very expensive place where I can rarely afford it.

Anyone having an interview for HKU’s IBGM on April 6th?

I applied to HKU MBBS…
Did anyone else apply or heard back from them yet? This is driving me crazy!
I hate waiting…

Hello,

I am thinking about studying in Hong Kong for a semester abroad next school year. My school has forwarded my application to HKU and I will hear back in November. I applied to the faculty of arts and sciences and the faculty of economics and finance. Can anyone give me a review of HKU? How would a semester abroad be? How are the facilities (gym, computer lab, playing fields, dorms) compared to a western university? How are the classes? How is the student body? How are black people treated at the university by professors, their peers, and the Hong Kong community?

TheGrand r u having an interview with HKU? If so r u local or international student? Since I have chosen IBGM as my first choice and haven’t heard anything from HKU in response it makes me feel a little bit nervous…;/

@Saule - Hm. I am a local international student. LOL if that makes any sense. I’m a Hong Konger studying abroad in Singapore. So I have been contacted by email on the 26th to have a phone interview on the 27th for IBGM (they assumed I was in Singapore - but I was on my flight back to Hong Kong so I told them I would not be able to make it). So instead, they put me into a group (physical) interview on the 6th April. If I am not wrong, only shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview. I could be wrong and I’m not trying to suggest anything.

@Y2kplaya92 - So I am presuming you are black? In general, HKU’s education (most courses) is very outstanding not just in Asian terms but in terms of world standard too. (ranked 15th-25th in the past 2 years by one agency) HKU may not have outstanding facilities compared to the western universities, but in terms of experience, I would highly recommend you to go there. HKU has the top students from Hong Kong and in general, they are very open to people with diverse backgrounds (about 20% of their students are international vs 8% avg in the US). Situated in the city  Yay!!

Keep in mind, one semester is not very long, not only the school experience would be exciting, you will get into interact with lots of local students, realise that Hong Kong is not a backward place (which many ignorant people think so),learn that Hong Kong is nothing like anywhere else in China (it is REALLY different), especially as an Asian finance center, you will get a lot of exposure to business-related things, so just make sure you don’t waste a second when you are in Hong Kong! haha not sure if that actually answered your questions. And HKU’s Business Admin. Programs are among the top in Asia (not sure about econs, but for finance yes)

Do you think it would be wise to assume that I am rejected…?
I still have not heard anything from HKUST and HKU …
Have any future engineering people received a notification yet?

rubichino…if you applied in jan or after jan, then fret not. nobody has got the decisions.
If you applied before jan, then yea, it means you’re not accepted.

I got HKUST for electronic engineering with award of 40k a year. I am from Malaysia. Nice to meet you guys ! …Still considering.

Did anyone of you applied for HKPolytechnicUniversity if I may ask. I am not sure about the reputation of whether HKPolyU is good and up there with the others. Enlighten please anyone? Thank you.

@khan91: Yay! What a relief… Did you apply after Jan also? haha… If so, i really hope we can get the decisions by next week, :)

@dqbonafide: Congratulation! I was going to apply Poly U too, but the reputation there seemed to be lower than that of ust and hku… I heard poly u is one of the best univs in HK too, but i am not so sure about its position globally. Since I am definitely doing master degree, I need some name value…you know… I guess you should choose hkust.

By the way guys, is it easier to get scholarship for those who took early action???
and what if i am close the requirement for the scholarship…???

^^, i already got my decision. I applied early action(in December)… got 60K per annum scholarship in electronic engineering.

Hi people! I applied after Jan, start of Feb I think…anyone recieved any interview calls etc. ?

Hey guys,
I just got a mail from HKUST!
but it’z a conditional offer…
gotta get over 4 on AP cal and physics,

@rubichino-congrats with hkust! for hku, they should have an internet system started up in april, which is tomorrow, where you can check the status of your application. not sure when in april that it is going up, but its supposed to be april. =)

How are you suppose to use that online system? Are they going to give you ID and pw?
