Hmm..Internship..or..General Ed classes..

Hi I am currently a high school senior planning to go into medicine (not 100% sure yet but its my current plan)

There is a medical internship this summer for the month of july described as a "job shadow" program - it is 8 hours day , 5 days a week for 4 weeks

Is this type of thing worth it now, or is it just something that would look good on a college app?

I have the other choice of getting done some general ed courses

In that months time i could probably complete 2 classes

Got any words of wisdom guys? Which one of these do you think would be the best to do?

Thanks

Go for the med internship.

You may find that a career in medicine is just not for you. Better to find out now, than halfway through med school.

I'd research the type of work you'd be doing in the internship. Find the job description. Make sure it would be work you'd be interested in doing and would expose to you what it would be like working in medicine. The worst thing would be taking the internship while you file papers all day and not get to see anything exciting. If this is the case, I'd totally do the classes and look for an internship in college. If not, go for the internship.

Colleges usually have more than 1 summer session. With the internship lasting only 4 weeks, you might still be able to attend a summer session taking 2 classes.

Do the internship, definitely. You can always take classes online or overload your course credits during the school year.

Do the internship. It could open up some connections for you through the rest of your college/med school career. You're only a HS senior, so you don't have to get those GE's out of the way before you even start ;).
