there isn't a lot of info on the web about this program so i was wondering if anyone could contribute anything other than what they have on the sites.

apparently 6 kids were accepted last year, and since the school is increasing in size every year, maybe they'll take more?

I didn’t get to apply to this program because I missed the deadline, but you’re right, there isn’t much info on it. However, i found out about the program by searching hofsta bs/md on google and it led me to a college confidential thread.

Nope still waiting lol, but my friend got an email notice last week. He said his was the week after next… I am really not sure about their time frame for email/ schedule, but it definitely started…

well, since students are allowed to pick their own interview days i think they’ve finished sending notifications. some kids will be interviewing on this friday. they can’t just send an invite the day before if one wishes to interview this friday.

I called Hofstra to ask about the interview notifications. The majority of them have been sent out, but they are still in the process of notifying people. You could call Ms. Quille and ask her about your status and she’ll tell you.

@malibubeach- Do you know how many people are being interviewed? @sbmhhs- As far as stats, what do you mean? LIke specifically what do you want to know about?

I also had an interview. They said they want to take in 15 students but are open to accepting more depending on how “qualified” the applicants are.

As for pro’s and con’s.
As far as I can see— feel free to correct me— the only pro is that you have an easier shot at getting into the Hofstra-LIJ North Shore Medical School. The medical school is brand new (in its 2nd year running), has a surplus of resources for their medical students because of their huge health network system which gives you TONS of experience and access to lots of information, and is built on a curriculum that emphasizes hands-on and practical applications from year one (most medical schools only allow clinical work during the 3rd year).

The “con’s” are that you are going to Hofstra University for four years which may not meet the “standards” for some people. You also have to take the MCAT. You need a 30 on the MCAT with at least a 9 in each section.

However, many of my friends already in college recommend that if you get into any program-- the bottom line is: it’s a program. Any MD program gives you an easier shot at getting into that particular medical school. So if you’re given a seat, take it.

If you’re struggling between an Ivy League school and this program…well I have no answer for that- sorry ><

Thank you, but does anyone have any idea whether to choose Hofstra program over an Ivy?? I can’t really work around the fact that at my graduation, people will see that I went to “Hofstra,” not that that’s bad, but I probably will have a lot of explaining to do to…

If anyone is currently in the BS MD Program, I really would like to know what you guys think about it!!!
