i am looking at holderness as a possibility. is anyone else here looking at this school? are there any holderness students or parents here? i would love to hear what others have to say about it. happy thanksgiving to everyone.

I don't really know anything about it, but my friend's older brother went to Holderness and really loved it. He had a great experience there.

I don't know much. I know someone whose son goes there & loves it. He is a strong skier & snowboarder. Did you visit? Often a visit will let you know whether or not it's a good fit. Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

i did visit holderness and liked it very much. it is small but the students were friendly and i thought the staff was easy to talk with. because of the school size, there are lots of chances for you to learn leadership. i just dont know anyone else who is applying or who went there. that is why i started this forum. anyone else?

Again, no personal experience but it is highly thought of by many of the administrators of my children's school (jr prep school in new england).

If you can see yourself there, then you should apply. It would be a good balance with the Exeter / Deerfield applications.

thank you linda. i had a positive impression as well but wanted to hear from some other people. everyone talks about deerfield, exeter, sps, etc. it is intereesting to learn about some of the lesser discussed places.

I was a student at Holderness in the late 1980s and taught there much more recently... although the late 1990s probably seems like just as long ago if you are applying for High School admissions :)

Holderness has terrific athletics, community service and special programs, academics. It is small, but you are right this offers students opportunities for leadership. They have active job and leadership programs.

I found it to be a supportive community both as a student and as a faculty member. There are actually quite a few faculty who were faculty when I was a student still there, and more who were faculty when I was teaching there... usually there are at least one or two alums on the faculty at any given time... I think that many alums go back there to teach, and faculty stay there for many years because they are generally happy with the lifestyle and the community.

I am from the area (although I now teach at a college in VA), so I keep in touch with the school when I go home to visit family... feel free to PM me.
