Holiday Gifts - hits and misses

One of the very few things I miss from Chicagoland - the first crocuses of spring.

I gave me law school DIL a gavel. She loved it so much that she sent a pic of it to her cohort.

I always buy the kids a pair of socks. Everyone agreed that this year’s were particularly on point.

That is a great gift. Hope you’ll share a few pictures when they all bloom.

The very elaborate T-Pain cocktail book was a hit with my son-in-law. It’s called Can I Mix You a Drink and it has instructions for very complicated drinks. I think SIL likes the formulas and complexity. The book, for some reason, was shrink-wrapped so I didn’t get a good look at it before I gave it to him.

HITS: Tickets to virtual concerts you can watch at home “live”, and re-watch again after were handy and appreciated this Holiday season - our youngest kid embraced those stream concerts and I am right now in the middle of “TwoSet Violin” show stream with her, in the comfort of our living room. She was an usher at their last world tour concert in our city, got to meet the crew and is a huge fan. This is her NY gift:). It is a classical music/comedy act.

Newspaper and magazine subscriptions are always a hit, my son sponsors MotorTrend subscription for our 3yo nephew, lil guy obsessed with hot wheels.

Museum membership was very appreciated.

We got and gifted some of the regular concert tickets and DragonCon passes too - hoping it will still happen in person next year.

MISS: AirFryer, what is all the hype?

An Air fryer was our best pandemic purchase. So great during the year of take out! It restore foods that don’t usually survive the ride home back to its “ right out of the kitchen” deliciousness: Falafel, sweet potato fries, tempura etc….Also fabulous for quickly cooking steaks and chicken.

Best present for GD: Easy Bake Oven. All she wanted to do was bake stuff. My original used a light bulb for cooking, now it has a plug-in cord! Peanut butter cookies in 6 minutes. A huge hit!

Now that’s a labor of love!

I got the silicone popcorn poppers and Mike’s Hot Honey (from the stocking stuffer thread) and they were both a hit!

My husband gave me Hamilton tickets for the closing night in Memphis. It was great. We spent the night at the Peabody. I loved it!!!

My D got me the revlon one step blow dry brush. I love it so much you would think I was being paid by revlon to go on about it. It has completely changed and simplified my hair drying routine.

Interesting… I may need to check that out now that my perm is grown out. When I first saw them, I thought… “Gee, that looks the old Hot Comb we had in 1970s before blow dryers came along.”

I have super thick hair that is prone to frizzing. My normal blow dry routine involved 30+ minutes with a round brush and tons of product and usually culminated in me sweating with a tired arm and less than satisfying results. This tool has cut the time in half and the results are so much better. I can’t recommend it more highly than I do.

They work WAY better than the old hot combs. I have thick super curly hair and this hair dryer is fast and tames my hair much better than a separate hair dryer brush combo ever did. I have bought them for all the young women in my family, two of whom proclaimed that it was a “game changer”.

I’m on my second one. Love it. So much easier than using a separate brush and dryer simultaneously!
It was one of my recommendations on this thread in 2020!

My sister gave me a Roomba and I wasn’t sure what to think (I had never really considered getting one), but so far I love it!

I have a friend who posted about this very thing a couple of days ago. Results are amazing in her before and after pics.

I got my early 20s kids each a spinner/wheelie suitcase. Neither had one (lots of duffle bags, but no suitcases). I thought they would be more of a practical gift and the kids probably wouldn’t appreciate them until they actually went somewhere.

But surprisingly (to me anyway), the kids really liked them and said it was a good gift because they didn’t own one and wouldn’t have bought them for themselves.

Hi,

That is good question. What I ask for this year is to have more quality time with my kids. I really want to give kids yoga mat for them.
