Thanks all for the boot guidance!
My daughter attends school in Wyoming. You are as likely to see flip flops as hiking boots, even with snow on the ground. It’s hard to ride bikes in hiking or high top boots, and they do ride their bikes all year long.
LL Bean duck boots, ankle height or higher are common choices (had a kid in Wisconsin).
One of my favorite blogs, Modern Mrs. Darcy, has had several gift related posts recently. Today’s post was her annual suggestions for stocking stuffers:100 Stocking stuffers that will actually be appreciated
He should ask others there…the answer varies wildly. My kids liked LLBean boots, but in some places those would be viewed as nerdy. But they are warm, waterproof and last forever.
Thanks - I got a few ideas. When I clicked on the link for the Sriracha packets I saw little Sriracha keychains with the logo that you can refill and take with you (looks like a hand sanitizer container.) D21 will love that - she gets her sriracha and it’s better for the environment than the packets I almost grabbed.
It also gave me an idea to add to this list - an address stamp. My husband bought us one years ago and I thought it would be kind of useless but I use it all the time. Something I would never have high for myself but could be a cute gift.
Check out this screenshot from my visit to Amazon a few minutes ago!
And I never bought the honey. Must be all of the CC parents who made it a bestseller.
If he is in and out classes/ building etc snow boots or bulky hiking boots might not be very practical. I had a kid in Minnesota and for school and everyday he mostly wore waterproof sneakers and Clarks boots.
I was going to say similar. If he’s in a snow belt the school/city are probably going to be pros at snow removal. They get it done. So it’s not likely that he is trudging through feet of snow often. Def need a waterproof footwear and something with some warmth for the cold but it also needs to be practical for walking around , sitting inside in the classroom and honestly, unless he doesn’t care, visually appealing and somewhat easy to get on.
I ordered a navy blue zip up hoodie from the Gap for H. H likes to wear his old one when we walk and it’s cold out (I know it’s never that cold here in San Diego). He said to me the other day that his old sweatshirt is looking ratty so I jumped on that since he is so hard to buy gifts for. Of course Gap had 40% off everything plus another 10% with the Gap card so I think I paid less than $35.
This was recommended on one of our threads last month, so I ordered. I like them.

There are many in the package (3 sets of 6 sizes), so I made a multicolor assortment of all sizes for stocking stuffer. You could choose to do all same color, but I think it makes it nice to grab the right size if you remember “the big pink one”/whatever.
Just returned from Costco. They had the waxed (no watering needed) amaryllis bulbs (3) for $22!
I think they were $8 at TJ’s last year, so you got a good deal @88jm19 . Enjoy!
Does anybody remember playing A Barrel of Monkeys? It makes a nice, fun no-battery toy/game gift.
Tonight I grabbed our old set on the way out to happy hour at a brewpub with old work friends. We were joined by a younger international couple on assignment and their middleschooler (English second language for them all, but they do have surprisingly good vocabulary). Oh what fun we had playing it. Took it when we all moved on to a restaurant for dinner. Also had a deck of cards and played “War”, but definitely the Barrel was a bit hit … so many laughs!
Barrel of Monkeys is a great motor and visual activity for preschoolers and apparently older people too!
For those with outdoor enthusiasts on their shopping lists, the REI sale is on!
I forget, do we have a 2022 stocking stuffer list???
Yes, here you go…
This is a STEAL it seems.

I found this on Amazon. It is not sold by Amazon and it is shipped by some obscure seller. I would carefully investigate the seller before ordering from such unknown place. Too many knock-offs. The starry reviews are for the product in general (regardless of the seller).
