I started this thread with my online order of a t-shirt quilt, and thatā€™s still the only gift Iā€™ve purchased so far. That daughter also needs a new hockey helmet ($$$ so not sure sheā€™ll get one). No good ideas for anyone else.

I just had to fill out the form for the kids I work with through CASA, for kids involved in the court system. Five kids from 2-11, and their wishes are so simple (jewelry, art set, cars, transformers) that it helps me remember that sometimes simple wishes are better, and enough. What they really want is a house to live in.

One thing about all the holiday sales is I
Always find things to buy for myself. Sometimes my husband will intercept the package and wrap it up for me. He learned long ago that he isnā€™t the best at figuring out what Iā€™d liked.
He doesnā€™t like getting gifts. The kids insist on buying him something. If I find something I think he would
Like Iā€™ll buy it otherwise he gets things he needs.

I bought my husband a Theragun: https://www.therabody.com/

Any way you can share that with us? Would they accept open items?

Iā€™m not as familiar with how CASA sets things up, but you can also reach out to your local school district and speak with their homeless liaison (or ask about who works with the McKinney/Vento families). They will often have numerous eligible families and descriptions of their holiday wishlists. Or, you could also reach out to your local CASA organization, if you have one nearby.

Thx. We have Best Food Forward, for foster kids. We got them every suitcase available. Then, we have a local place for bicycles. There is so much more I and others can offer.

Thank goodness my son always has a list ready with specific items. I just order and wrap!
Wish everything was that easy! Leaves me with fun add ons knowing heā€™ll like it.

And thanks for mentioning CASA and Best Food Forwardā€“Iā€™ll look into those.

Thanks for offering to help. All the families being served by CASA are different, and not all are needy (just involved in the courts).

CASA has fundraisers and receives donated things (toys, clothing, car seats, toothbrushes) and I think it is mostly new. They also have corporate sponsors that provide things like the thanksgiving baskets (Kroger) and the winter coats from Target. They have other community groups they team with too, like Rotary is providing Christmas Trees with all the trimmings to 10 families.

I think it is great that they try to get every child one gift that they really want for Christmas, even others in the family if they arenā€™t ā€˜CASA kidsā€™ (like if they are in a foster family, every child in the house gets a gift).

I think the best way to help would be to contact your local office and offer what you have. They do have times when they are trying to set up a new high school grad into an apartment and do need kitchen things, a microwave, sheets and towels and they do take those donations, but they donā€™t have storage so it has to be close to the time they need them. When my family finds housing, weā€™ll all contribute things to the house (I have sheets, towels, kitchen stuff all ready to deliver).

They will always take gift card donations, both for the volunteers to use to take the kids out on an adventure (Zoo Lights, McDonaldā€™s, Pottery Painting) or to give to the families (to buy school supplies, gas, groceries), so if you have any gift cards left over that you canā€™t use, please donate those.

They always need stuff for teens.

I was thinking of a Tesalate or Sand Cloud for my kids. Are they ā€œtowelsā€ or more ā€œblanketsā€? I want something they can wrap up in and dry off after getting out of the waterā€¦and then sit on.

Thanks!

Attention shoppers in the greater Seattle area! Metropolitan Markets have the Bonne Maman calendars on sale for $15.99! I saw a pile of them at our local market.

Hmm, I have always thought Bonne Maman advent calendars sold out quickly. Wondering if they significantly increased production if there are some still out there to be discounted. Interesting.

This is an upscale local market chain known for some great ā€œloss leaderā€ sales. I wonder if they ordered the calendars but the shipment got delayed until now. It is cutting too close to December 1st, so have to move the product quickly.

That theory makes sense. Whatever the case, some shoppers are going to get a nice treat for a deal!

My Aldi had a bunch of the cheese and jelly advent calendars this week. A whole end cap. I think there was a chocolate one too. All $15.99.

Do you know if they were the 12 pack or 24 pack?

Looked like the 24 pack I bought on Amazon!

Geez let me tell you that calendar was such a hit for my daughters birthday- everyone else was jealous! Iā€™d buy 2 more at your price!

Ds selected the larger one (I think it was called a, ā€œdoubleā€). The size makes it more blanket-like to me. I really donā€™t know about the absorbency. I sent it directly to him, so I have not seen/touched it. I just know he likes it. Sorry I cannot be of more help.
