Hollin's Uni Presidential Candidate

I don’t know how, but I became a presidential candidate for this school.
I get a free app and a possibility of a $20000 scholarship.
I’ve done my research but I decided to pass. I missed to deadlines and I’ve been notified of the last one in January. At this point, I kind of think it’s fate or something. That they are still willing to have me apply.
Not it’s the decision. I started the app and everything, just don’t know if I can submit for two reasons.
It’s an a woman’s college(which isn’t too big of a deal).
My brother lived in Virginia for a fee years and hated it.
The only other woman’s college I’ve been interested in is Bryn Mawr. But isn’t that closing down or something?
Should I even apply after missing two deadlines?

Do more research. Hollins is an excellent college and the Roanoke community is vibrant and welcoming, in my experience. Not sure why your brother had a bad experience (where in the state was he?) but overall Virginia is quite a nice place.

Bryn Mawr is healthy AFAIK. Perhaps you’re thinking of Sweet Briar (serious financial challenges).

@pickpocket Yes, It was Sweet Briar, but I looked into Bryn Mawr as well.
I’m not exactly sure where he was. I pretty sure he was enrolled in school. But he had just gotten out of the military and I wasnt really in contact. Im alot younger than him, so I never thought to ask when I talked to him it was never about the area, just how he’s liking Virginia and how’s his football team. We are from Cali/Nevada so it must have been a change.
I’ll ask him where he lived tomorrow…
I’ve read all over the website and I like the community feel, but it seems a bit small. I don’t know, I’m trying to make a decision about this school. Like I don’t see the harm in applying, but would it look bad now that my first two deadlines past?

Hello! I live in Northern Virginia and have visited Hollins. I applied as a Presidential Candidate and received my acceptance letter within two weeks. I received a $26,000 scholarship and even more money from the FASFA. Plus, you can get more scholarship money if you have talent in the Fine and Performing Arts.
Hollins is a wonderful school. The campus is very beautiful, and although small, everyone is very kind and you would definitely build lifelong friendships if you went there.
Now, Hollins is not my first choice solely for the fact that it is an all female college. I understand your qualms. But I’ve spoken to several of students and friends that go there, and apparently, there is an all male college that is about 45-hr away. Guys are on campus all the time. Plus, almost everyone travels abroad by their junior year, so you won’t be stuck on campus. Roanoke is beautiful city surrounded by mountains. You can go out in town to meet new people. You aren’t’ stuck on campus. So go for it! Submit the application. It’s free and won’t hurt anything.

As for Virginia, it’s a very beautiful state. I actually moved here from LA, so it’s quite a cultural difference. Things move a lot slower unless you live near DC (which I do) or the Hampton Roads. Depending on where you go, people aren’t the nicest, but most are. You are the one that has the power to make the most out of the situation wherever you go, so your brother may not have liked it here, but you might love it.

I think I will fill out my application. Not sure if I’d attend but I might change my mind. I’ve started the application, just need the recommendation.
Applying couldn’t hurt me, so I’ll go ahead and do it. But once I get my acceptances from all my schools, I’ll have a hard decision to make.
I did my research on the school already, but I’m going to see what else I can find out abt it.
@ariaamusic

@ariaamusic Did you apply to any other Women’s Colleges?

I’m deciding whether or not the apply to Spelman. It’s a really great school. Also, I heard Smith and Wellesley are top notch too. But my heart is set on William and Mary if I don’t get into Princeton, so who knows!

I’ve decided to look at a few Women’s Colleges but I think for women colleges I might end up only applying to Hollins.
I have most of the application complete, I just need to write the personal statement. Isn’t there supposed to be recommendations? I didn’t see any info on the application.

Yes, there are recommendations. My school does them through a system called naviance, but I think once you submit the application, you can download it and on there are instructions for how to go about submitting recommendations.
