Home design: is gray here to stay?

Beautiful!

I like the gray & white counters/cabinets/walls/backsplash more if paired with warmer (brown) floors. I think there needs to be some contrast somewhere. So, if you dislike the cherry cabinet look, then put the warmth in the floors.

I I think it has a lot to do with the position of your kitchen.

My kitchen faces north and is always dark. The kitchen faces the base of a steep mountain. The builder’s design was a light, white-washed oak but that doesn’t help. You could tell that the builder tried to keep it light and open.

Its a small, really dark kitchen and it has to be given lighter colors. I have huge windows and a slider in the family room, but the way the kitchen is situated, in this part of the house, just always looks dark so we need to put in light cabinetry (which will be happening within the next couple of months).

I love the cherry wood and my daughter has it in her condo, but her kitchen faces south and she gets full sun and it’s beautiful!

Our designer installed light wallpaper, but we still had to put in additional lighting and I have to turn on the lights for a better part of the day.

I love an all-white kitchen and I think it will work well for this house because this small kitchen needs it. I would love to have cherry wood but it just would be too dark.

I love all the pictures - thank you all for sharing. I am a fan of white kitchens and I do like neutrals- gray/greige, etc. When we purchased our home 24 years ago it had a small white kitchen. A few years later we did an addition/complete remodel and we put in cherry cabinets. Our prior home had very light cherry cabinets. We are now in planning stage for kitchen/family room/powder room/mudroom remodel and I think we’re going with white kitchen but either dark grey or wood island. Not sure what to do with bar area, powder room or mudroom cabinetry yet. Recently remodeled 2nd floor bathrooms and did a navy vanity with white quartz top, white tile and it looks great!
Several friends have remodeled in the last two years and all but one has done white. Since we spend so much time in our kitchens I will echo others to do what you like!

Sticking my two cents in about hardware again….I think that pulls like in the last pic above really update a door or drawer more than knobs. If you can do pulls over knobs it also helps upgrade your cabinets.

Do what you like. I re-did my kitchen a few years ago and opted to keep the same wood cabinets (real wood) although I did have to buy a few custom made cabinets to match… but i paired them up with gray granite. the granite has some different tones in it that look really really good with the wood. I also opted for an offwhite subway tile backsplash, and these glass accent tiles that had both the wood color and the granite tile in them. I also found a tile for my flooring that had the tones from the wood and the gray in them as well. It all came together looking perfect. I just wish the kitchen were larger.

I’ve posted my kitchen before, but this photo shows all the things I like:
white cabinets, butcher block and soapstone (either side of stove), the Boos table with tomato colored base, mix of open shelving hanging rails and closed cabinets for the mess stuff. I’m very happy with these pulls I’d originally thought I’d have the 1920s bin pulls but my husband hated them. BTW I hate my fridge, but I’m waiting for it to die.

In terms of cabinet handles vs. knobs - a cabinet seller once told me that folks who are a little closer to the older stage of life tend to favor the handle type since even if you lose mobility somewhat in your hands you can still slide your hand inside the handle and open, while grasping the knob might be difficult.

I never would have thought of this!

PS Love all these kitchen pix! So beautiful!
