Homeschooled

My family moves around a lot, so I have almost always been homeschooled. How do colleges view this, and how do i fill out all the forms that ask for school reports, teacher recommendations, grade point averages and stuff?! I would really appreciate any help with this! Thank you for reading!

Anyone?!?!

they aren't going to put much weight on your GPA (assuming you have parent teachers). they do however put huge emphasis on test scores, community college course grades, EC's, and recommendation letters. you should try to get a letter from your homeschool teacher, or CC professor. try to think if you have had any tutors who had teaching credentials. i'm sure they could also write you up a recommendation letter.

for school reports, you'll definately have to contact the colleges you plan on applying to. must colleges require homeschoolers to submit portfolios of their work along with written proof of homeschooling. they need some kind of concrete work to compare yours to traditional gpas. some just might accept a written up transcript by your homeschool teacher...in that case your acceptance will probably be weighed almost entirely on test scores, ECs, letters.

oh btw, colleges love homeschooled kids....they add to the diversity of the college and they generally perform extremely well.

My sons were both homeschooled, although they took some classes at the local high school and community college. The outside grades do help a lot, as do good test scores and community involvement. Of course, if you move a lot, this could be difficult.

As the homeschooling parent, I filled out all the guidance counselor forms, made a transcript, wrote out course descriptions for the classes done at home, and wrote a two page cover letter telling why and how we homeschooled, our philosophy of education, and how homeschooling helped my sons develop their skills and find their passions. We had outside teachers do the teacher recommendations. If you don't have an outside teacher, perhaps an employer, tutor, or homeschool co-op teacher would work.

Some colleges have a page on their website telling what they want from homeschoolers. None of our colleges wanted a portfolio, but I hear some do.
