ACT: 30 (only took it once, but will take it again).

Basically, I know my stats are pretty mediocre and asking about my “chances” is pretty ridiculous as well since the whole admissions process is a crapshoot, but I guess I can’t help but post another obnoxious chances thread.

I know the info I've provided doesn't give a holistic picture of what my application will look like, but what are some weaknesses that I could work on (improving my ACT score being one). I'm going to take the SAT Reasoning in the fall and I'm retaking some subject tests too.

Oh, I'm also an intended English major. I definitely want to double major or at least minor in either psychology or philosophy as well (most likely the former).

Keep taking the ACT to get your score up. My D was 1/525, 4.0/4.0 UW, 5.66W, 31 ACR, 4 years varsity golf, many other EC's and CS. She was not even waitlisted.

^That sounds more like a case of some subtle personal flaw than a stats problem (Bad recommendation perhaps? Came off as arrogant?) My school's valedictorian a couple years ago got denied to every major university she applied to except NYU. This is a top 50 public high school, where the top 20% of each class goes on to top 20 schools, and where we send on average a combined total of ~12 to SHYMP (class of ~300) with great numbers more to other Ivy and Ivy tier.

That being said, you're iffy, especially being as hyper-local as you are (what is it, 7 miles outside Evanston you live?). You definitely will want to improve your ACT by a couple points, or score 2200 or better on the SAT.

This is for WCAS, yes? What are your AP scores like?

Evanstons still a good 45 minute drive from where I live.

And yeah, I do need to improve my ACT score.
I got a 3 in Euro (Ugh, I know), 4 in US, and a 5 in Eng Lit & Comp.

Mmm, the AP's aren't helping.

And really? I could've sworn your town (if its the one I'm thinking of) was only one or two towns over...

u go to Maine East? lol, i woulda gone there if i didnt move b4 freshman year

if you really want to go to Northwestern, then applying ED could really boost your chances.

lol, Maine South, actually.

hmmm, well, I was thinking about applying EA do UChicago, b/c that is my first choice. Am I allowed to apply EA & ED simultaneously?

Yes, but I seem to remember that some individual colleges (Brown, for example) don't like it. Check with the ED school in question.

And if Chicago is your first choice, why would you apply ED and risk not coming? :-(

i guess she went to both. from wiki

As a child, Hillary Rodham was involved in many activities at church and at her public school in Park Ridge. She participated in a variety of sports and earned awards as a Brownie and Girl Scout.[10] She attended Maine East High School, where she had participated in student council, the debating team and the National Honor Society. For her senior year she was redistricted to Maine South High School,[11] where she was a National Merit Finalist.[11]

A lot of people get in with much less ECs and stats. I wouldn't say you're a shoo-in, but I'd be fairly confident if I were you.

Hmm, I would apply ED to Northwestern...but I also really like UChicago at the moment (I know...it's bit unusual). I'm actually pretty torn.

Will my involvement with NU's Campus Kitchen help me out at all? But, I haven't gone since last October...
