Well your GPA is low, but your SAT Scores make up for it. I would retake the SAT Subject test because its low. Spend more time on your community service and make sure you stand out to Columbia Soccer, it will be a major plus. I think you would be a decent canidate for Columbia

I think you should attempt to be recruited for soccer at Columbia. That will be your route in. Use all the tools you possibly can to get into the school you really want to get in to.

Actually, being a black American matters a LOT in college admission. Your are a URM, and therefore your chances at getting in a top school is a lot higher (especially with your SAT scores). Just do as well as you can in school next year and try to flesh out your ECs and you should have a good chance anywhere.

Understand that Columbia has one of the lowest acceptance percentages of any school and that no one on CC can possibly know what your real chances are. The best anyone can honestly say is whether you’re in the general range of students typically accepted; but many students in that range also get denied.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using CC App

In complete honesty, I was thinking “probably not” until I saw the second-to-last line in your post.

^ I hate those kinds of comments. Why even say it, aside from personal bitterness? How does that help OP?

But, yes, if you can be recruited for soccer, coupled with your SAT scores and URM status, you’ll have a very good chance.

in my opinion, taking everything into account you still have a pretty low chance.

Someone on CC applied ED to Columbia with a 3.4 uw and got accepted in 2010 year.

Why Columbia- with a 3.6, I would wonder if you would be able to succeed in an extremely rigorous school like Columbia.

Even though you are African American a 3.6 is usually not a GPA Columbia considers as an applicant who would be able to excel in the rigorous classes they offer.

Someone above said that your SAT would benefit you, I beg to differ. That score is average, if not below average of most of the applicants. A 2300(although only 40 points higher would help you more)

If you are interested in a NY city school I recommend NYU, you are a better match.

Sorry for the harsh truth but people saying otherwise would just be getting your hopes up. Still apply though, it could never hurt!
