I just want to go to the University of Delaware
I mean getting into higher tier schools would give the greatest satifaction
But I will probably go to Delaware regardless of where I get accepted

Because I really like the school
Because it's inexpensive, and quite generous
Because I love the professors

But of course, it's not as prestigious as some of the other schools I have a shot at getting into

So my question-
Should I go to the school I love and really want to go to or focus on getting into a better school for the sake pf prestige?

I mean, I can always go to a kick ass grad school

So go. You answered your own question. Dont get caught up in this stupid CC hype, its a good school, its your favorite school, you got accepted. Its time to grow up man, you are going to college, stop looking to others to make up your mind and follow your own desires, otherwise you are going to be another cookie cutter person, no matter how smart you , or anyone on this board, thinks they are.

hyakku that is horrible advice. growing up entails much more than just doing what you want. while i would never tell some random person on the internet which schools they should and should not go to, i would advise someone that the pratical, smart, "grown up" decision would be to wait until they had all options in front of them so that a smart and logical decision could be made. weighing all your options and making the decision that is best for your future is part of "growing up".

I think the first part of hyakku's advice is good. Go where you want to go, and don't worry about the prestige hype that everyone goes crazy about on here.

haha, my sister goes there and she was third in her class...she got a great scholarship and is now appling to very prestigious md/phd programs...Delaware may not be ivy level, but it certainly compairs with other regionally known schools like syracuse, american, etc...i say go for it!

Prestige is BS. Success in the real world is something that you can only do through yourself. What school you go to won't make you successful. Just make sure U Del has the resources you need to learn.

From what I see in the premed threads, you would probably need to do better at Delaware than at an Ivy to get into the same graduate programs. You would also need to stand out more to have the same job opportunities. I would not lock in with Delaware without seeing scholarship and financial aid offers from other schools because a "better" one may end up also being cheaper. To be honest, it feels really good to get into prestigious schools and it sort of validates all the hard work you put into high school, but the name should not be a deciding factor when choosing a college to go to. Just be sure to do your research and visit other schools to make sure Delaware is for you.

What I speak comes from personal experience: The people there are quite nice and UD, IS becoming more prestigious in many fields (especially chem engineering). It really does depend on what you wish to major in. Others posting here may not be too familiar with the school so in their eyes it's not prestigious enough, but in all honesty, it is not a bad school, but it may not be your first choice if you want an easier path to a good grad school (you can still get to good grad and med schools from UD, but it definitely a whole lot harder)

^^As I said, I am a highschool junior who took classes there.
