I got acccepted to GMU early action, and I applied for their Honors Program. I don't know of anyone hearing back about the honors program, so I'm assuming nothing's been sent out on it yet. Does anyone know when/how we'll hear?

I haven’t heard yet. Based off of last year’s thread, I saw that people got accepted as soon as the 17th and as late as the end of January.

i got into the honors program today and i found out my acceptance 5 days ago

Same here as goldman

My D received Honors college acceptance in mail today.

I got mine today in the mail.

I got accepted into GMU and then like a week later got accepted into their Cornerstones Program, but still haven’t heard anything about the Honors College.

I got accepted to the Cornerstones Program too. Do you know if that’s really prestigious or not? I didn’t apply to the Honors College though.

@ Tangent.

I really only know two people in Cornerstones, and I haven’t bothered asking them about it since it doesn’t affect me.

I cannot say much, but from what I understand Cornerstones is a way of doing general education requirements (and if you are interested they have a major they offer). The difference is you will have more interactive, seminar style classes. Looking at Patriot Web, the maximum capacity for most classes classes is 25 people.

Also, people in Cornerstones are able to live in the Living Learning Community (LLC). The link for the LLC is below. Piedmont Hall is a newer one, therefore you will be living in a far better place than most freshman.

Before deciding, make sure the Cornerstones courses will work with your desired major (most likely it will).

Hello Everyone,

I was admitted into GMU early this year and along with my admission I received an invitation to its Cornerstone Program.

I would like to know more about this program. I went to the website but as you all know a website will only show the pros of the program and be mainly bias. I would like to get honest opinions about the program and know what kind of students are targeted.

Thank You All In Advance!

From what I understand, Cornerstones allows you to participate in smaller classes for your first year that are more hands-on and collaborative. It’s also a way of getting all your general ed requirements done the first year in a way that seems more enjoyable and interesting than large lecture classes. I am not positive but my hunch is that Cornerstones is offered to students who the college wants to attract but who maybe did not quite make the honors college cut based on gpa or test scores. My hunch is that it is offered to those who are desirable candidates based on positive qualities such as community involvement, leadership, talents and activities. Cornerstones is in a nice centrally located dorm with its own store and it seems like it would offer a very small community feel within a big university. Downsides are that it is only a first year program, and it does not work with some majors such as engineering.
