Honors college degree of socialness.

So I've been admitted to university of Iowa with a scholarship and to the honors college. I was just wondering are the people in the honors college still social and like to party or are they really studious and none like to party

My son was in honors as a freshman and lived in the honors dorm, Daum, which I highly recommend. Honors at Iowa brings in a wide range of kids. There were some on his floor whom he literally never saw. Down the hall, into the room and shut the door. Studied all the time. Others were much more social - went to the football games, played video games, went out to eat. I’m not sure they did much partying, but I really liked them as a great group of friendly, social yet pretty motivated students. Most of my son’s friends were in tough programs and were serious students. But they also had a lot of fun. I encourage you to apply to one of the honors dorms as you’ll meet great, supportive friends. My son had math friends to help with math, science friends to help with bio, etc.

Honors students at Iowa party hard!! I am a junior Old Gold Scholar, honors student, double major (finance, econ) and I always have time to go out on weekends. If you want to party I would not recommend Daum, some students who live there do party but the rules and RA’s are a little more strict about that kind of stuff there. That being said, there are a lot of honors students at Iowa and a great number are just like you in that they want do well in school and still save time for partying. I promise you are not alone!

Something that I would highly recommend is Honors Primetime. This is a several day, 1 credit hour class for honors students the week before fall semester begins. I know that I personally met a lot bright, motivated people who turned out to be some of my best drinking buddies. It gives you a chance to move in a little earlier than most students and is really a great start to the semester.

Hopefully this post is a little more encouraging than the last one, Iowa is truly an amazing place for students.

Thanks iowalion that helped a lot. I was happy I got into the honors college but was worried a bit about duam. You’ve cleared a lot up for me
