Honors College/Living-Learning for Premed Student

I am going to be a premed student this fall at UMD. I don’t know which Honors College to choose- I am between EIP, Humanities, and DCC.

EIP seems like it is group oriented and I could relate it to my health-related interests but I’ve head they don’t have good dorms.

Humanities would complement my bio major and make things more interdisciplinary (relate it to my health-related interests) for me and it would be interesting but I feel like Anne Arundel is too far out for freshman.

DCC integrates technology and humanities which is cool and I could relate it to biology and also the dorm is nice but I think it’s too far from Stamp.

I’m really confused about what to do and I have to submit my choice by this Friday.

I would appreciate any insight on these honors colleges/dorms (especially in context to premed). Thank you so much for all the help!!

First off, do NOT choose a program based on dorm! Choose a program based on interest. I can give you pros/cons for every dorm, so honestly, not an issue. Look at the curriculum/required classes for each program (I included the link for each program at the end of my personal commentary). That is how you should decide which one you should choose.

EIP is all about entrepreneurship - are you looking to possibly start your own business? It’s a great program that was inspired by Hinman CEOs upper class LLP. Nothing wrong with La Plata dorm other than being concrete…it’s got A/C and is pretty central - close to Eppley Rec Center and not far from/ in between the (formerly Byrd) stadium for football and Xfinity Center for basketball. http://www.mtech.umd.edu/educate/eip/learn.html

Humanities makes you well-rounded and interesting as a person -it specifically mentions public service as a possible exploration. Anne Arundel is a great dorm! There are plenty of freshmen and it’s convenient to McKeldin (both library for studying and mall for playing) http://www.honorshumanities.umd.edu/curriculum.html

DCC, from what I interpret from the description, is more about using media/design for communicating ideas than about technology itself. And the dorm is too far from Stamp? FYI, there are no dorms right next to Stamp and I’m not sure why that would play into your decision? FYI, the dorm is MORE than nice…? http://dcc.umd.edu/courses/
