@Ella582 Thanks. I get the holistic part for entry into honors but my question was more around the fact that to even apply for honors you had to have received the University freshman scholarship which required a 1410 SAT…so how would someone with an SAT (and equivalent ACT) lower than that even get the scholarship in the first place. According to admissions the SAT minimum was non-negotiable.
@leolion5 - a 31 ACT score correlates to a 1430 SAT or a 30 ACT converts to 1410 SAT. So someone could have gotten a SAT score in the 1300s but had an ACT score of 31 and get the Freshman Scholarship.
I got into the honors program and am also a finalist for the presidential scholarship! 31 ACT (but of course that’s not the only part that matters) Does anyone know what the interview will be like? Also Is the honors program as good as it seems on the website (people on reddit say it’s pointless but they also say that about UF’s honors program). I’ll of course be in tally for the scholarship though. can’t wait for the long drive ahead!
@my2caligirls According to their website, about 25 are awarded
Roughly 80-90 are at interview weekend, around 25 are awarded each year
Someone who went last year said that about 70 people attended and 25 received scholarships. The year before that 100 were invited and 26 received it. Where is everyone from? Are you guys going to come early to the Open House on Thursday?
Just judging from the FB posts from the interview weekend, it looks like there were 75 last year and about 70 the year before who attended. They are looking to fill a class of 25 Scholars, and of the 75 who attend there must be a good amount who do not end up attending FSU even if they are offered the Presidential. So, and just guessing here, I would think more than 25 must receive an offer, as it is unlikely the first 25 will accept when there are so many other schools likely competing for these excellent students.
Is there a group me for presidential finalists? Anyone know what to expect for the interview?
@whoisjay , I do not have any knowledge of a GroupMe. We can start one if everyone would like. The only forum I know of for contacting people is through the FSU 2022 Honors Facebook group.
I was reading some threads from previous years about the interview process and there is not much info. I saw that there are tours, round table discussions, the formal interview, a reception type thing at the University President’s House, and then some activities. It’s designed to be fun rather than filled with tension and anxiety so I guess we should just try to take it in stride. One girl described it as being ‘treated like a VIP,’ so there is definitely something to look forward too!
@vistajay @starryknight @Classicgirl17 @my2caligirls @arese97 , do you guys (or your student) want to start a GroupMe so we might get to know a few people for when we get to Tallahassee in a few weeks?
My D decided on another school - good luck with your Presidential opportunity.
@my2caligirls , tell your D congratulations and good luck from me. I hope she has an incredible college experience!
I’m a finalist too, and I think a groupme would be a good idea.
@ella582 and @2brute I just made a group me! DM me for the link (anyone that is a finalist and wants to join)
Has anyone heard when we’ll get the itinerary for the interview week?
@2brute I’d like to know too!
@2brute and @Classicgirl17 , the email stated we would receive more details the Monday prior to the weekend so April 2nd.
My son was accepted into the Honors Program due to National Merit Finalist Scholarship at FSU. So do we go to the interview weekend as well? A tour of Landis and meeting with the Honor’s staff would be nice.
@okeydokeypokey , not necessarily. Presidential Scholars is not determined simply by getting into Honors (though you must be in Honors to be considered) or being National Merit (though I’m sure that is a good thing to have). It is based on grades, test scores, course rigor, extracurriculars, and the essays. In your honors Acceptance email it would have also named your son a Pschol Finalist if he was one. The interview weekend is only for the Finalists though I’m sure you can ask if at a different date your son can tour Landis and talk to the Honors representatives.
I would say to contact Mr. Jeff Badger as he is the Associate Director of the program. He can probably answer a lot more of your questions and is very quick at getting in touch. Hope this helps!
@Ella582 thanks
, we will get in touch with Mr. Badger. My son doesn’t need the Presidential Scholarship as he already has full cost of attendance with the Benacquisto Scholarship, but he is living in Landis next year and has accepted his placement in the Honors Program. Would like to take a tour and get an overview of the Homots program for sure.
@okeydokeypokey , great. For Benacquisto students the real benefit besides having the scholarship is the cohort of people, the leadership summits, and the $12,000 enrichment stipend for study abroad or to fund research. I hope to meet your son either at orientation or next fall!
