How long should it be, word-count wise?

Mine was just under 500 words, and all my friends who applied also had the same length.

However, while I know it’s a nice feeling to know how long other people make their essays, don’t let this dictate how long your essay is. Make it as long as necessary to get to your point, but don’t go on for pages and pages about it. Keep it concise.

The honors program takes this essay very seriously, so make sure it’s not generic or perfunctory. Be very specific about what you want to gain and what you will contribute. Do research about the program, the possible major and the university. And don’t miss the December 1 deadline.

My essay was 275 words which was about half of a page single spaced. It is all about quality of the content rather than length. Don’t fill in BS just to get your word count up. Be precise and straight to the point of why you want to join the honors college here at UD.
