I have just really begun my college search and the biggest dilemma I am having is whether to go to a state school such as OSU or Miami and enroll in their honors program or to attend a private school like Vanderbilt or Wake Forest. Of course one major difference is the cost and with the economy how it is i am starting to reconsider my initial thought of going to “a prestigious out of state school”. So I guess I am just wondering hoe the Honors Program is (what it consists of, perks, rigor, current or past students experiences) and what your opinion would be on the matter of the appearance of either or for graduate school. Also are there Financial perks associated with the honors program?

Btw, planning on studying biology or zoology with intentions of going to a vet school after college(one reason why OSU stood out).

I am wondering the same thing. I'm considering transferring from William & Mary which is public but resembles Wake and Vandy more than it does UVA.

I live in central oh so needless to say I applied to oh st. I was thoroughly unimpressed with their honors program. I went to the honors school visit day in oct and left anything but convinced. It seemed like a number on your application and a few words on your diploma, when compared to the honors programs at the other schools I was considering. I also applied to Wake, thought it was THE school for me, visited, and was turned off. Now my top choice is U of Maryland, a large state school with an honors program, imo, way better than osu's. Long story short, I would consider other state schools like Maryland or Virginia if you're looking for an atmosphere somewhat similar to osu's, with, again, imo, better honors programs and more reasonable tuition than Wake or Vandy.

Idk if that's helpful. Sorry I wrote a book.
