Honors Programs at Universities.

I just recently got accepted to the honors college at Baylor University, but Im not sure if its worth entering into if I do go to Baylor. Im mostly just flattered that I got in-their average SAT between math and CR is 1370 and most people in the program are top 5% plus in their highschools. I'm 2nd decile and got a 1300, so I bet my essays and my 800 on the SAT Writing made an impression on them.

Anyway, what are the advantages of doing Honors Programs at these schools? I know class size is a big deal, and since Im from a private school that has between 18-25 perclass, smaller classes and professor availability will mean more to me. However, it is more work and it doesnt increase your GPA. And as for honors housing, I'd be rooming with my best friend from HS if I did go to Baylor, at least unless we get sick of each other after a semester, which is possible :P

So are these Honors Programs worth it? From what I've surmised, they dont necessarily help your GPA, but they put you in a more intellectual atmosphere with students you're more likely to get along with and appreciate.
