Honors Programs

I am an upcoming first-year applicant to the class of 2024 and I need to round out my safety school list with some good honors college opportunities. I am applying to Binghamton as I am based in NY as well as BU so far for safeties. I am going to apply to Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College, as well as Indiana and Ohio State for theirs. Just wondering if anyone has good recommendations for fulfilling honors programs that are out there meeting the following criteria:

  • Giving some form of financial scholarship
  • Not too far out of NY (trying to stay in the timezone)
  • Top tier name recognition for employment down the road
  • Interesting opportunities that differ from the generic programs

Just out of curiosity, what makes you only want honors colleges?

Which BU is your safety? Buffalo?

Can you share your weighted and unweighted gpa and test scores? What can you afford to spend? What is your major?

@NYC2018nyc I have a few preexisting safeties that I have a high chance of admission with, but I am now looking for Honors programs to apply to based on the increased affordability and benefits. Many describe them as bringing an elite private institution education to a large state school, and this is what I am looking for. I love the big school feel, but I also want a high-level education and I believe these honors programs provide that. I am looking for a few honors programs that are top tier in order to round out my list.

U of SC Honors College is supposed to be one of the best.

@“Erin’s Dad” Boston University. I have a double legacy (father went for undergrad and grad) and I have test scores and grades that put me in contention. If you are familiar with Naviance, I am among a large amount of green checkmarks on my test score vs. grades spectrum.

@twogirls Ideally, if I’m attending an honors program I’d like to spend $200,000 at the most for the 4 years in order to incentivize it enough. I’d like to study Business Management and I have a 1440 SAT with a 95.3 GPA (taking the highest course rigor possible at my high school)

Rutgers Honors College (NOT the honors program–there is a difference) provides significant scholarships for those who attend. The program is extremely competitive.
