I was accepted to the honors program a couple of weeks ago and had a question about the honors distinction upon graduation. On the website it says there is only an honors distinction after writing an honors thesis senior year, which anybody can apply to do. So is there a point in taking honors classes for two years and writing a thesis if you could just write a thesis?

Only if you want to be in the honors program.

There’s something called the Sophomore Honors Award you can get for completing the underclassmen requirements (GPA, 8 Honors classes). It doesn’t show up on your official transcript, but I suppose you could put it on a resume. Not really a huge deal and honestly a lot of people who qualify forget to apply for it.
