What percentage of students graduate with the Honors from economic or any other department?

I have no idea- but I wonder if they can manage a social life with honors at UofC

About half I believe.

I am asking this because to qualify for Honors work you have to be at least 3.5 in econ and 3.2 overall, which is not so bad

I know with some areas one has to complete grad-level courses ot receive honors.

idad, I believe it is less than half, based on the last U. of C. graduation booklet I saw.

Can I possible get access to that booklet asap?

Hmm, I don't know. I saw them at graduation last spring. Perhaps it is up on the U. of C. web site? You might want to do a search for it.

I have one at home from '99, and significantly less than 50% graduated with honors. But that was then, and more graduate with honors now.

There's a difference between departmental honors and general honors. General honors is 3.25. Departmental honors depends on your department.

Departmental honors is typically based on more than GPA. There is a GPA requirement, often of a 3.0 overall GPA, and a GPA of at least 3.5 in the concentration. Often a student must be are recommended for honors by their B.A. preceptor and faculty supervisor, and write an honors thesis or project. Completion of the project does not typically guarantee honors, there has to be departmental agreement.

As one can see, it is possible (though not likely) for a student to qualify for departmental honors and not qualify for College honors since an overall 3.0 GPA is often required for departmental honors, but a 3.25 is required for College honors. The converse is also true.

"I am asking this because to qualify for Honors work you have to be at least 3.5 in econ and 3.2 overall, which is not so bad"

Getting a 3.5 in one subject, let alone econ, is not so easy...

The course catalog is pretty clear regarding departmental honors requirements. You should go on line or look at your personal copy if you have further questions.
