Hi all!
I am curious to knwo if anyone has honestly gotten in at a school where their scores and whatnot are below the middle 50 % (as in bottom 25 %). If so, what were your scores? Did you have any sort of hook? Thanks!

By definition, someone has to get in with those stats. But I am willing to bet that virtually everyone in the bottom 25% is hooked in one way or another. Which is not the same thing as saying that everyone who is hooked who has stats in the bottom 25% gets in: most of them don’t. And is also not the same thing as saying that everyone who is hooked has stats in the bottom 25%.

Does anyone know these mysterious individuals? Well they comprise 1/4 of the entering class by definition!

In hindsight, my scores (one sitting) were about the 30th percentile of my HYP class. I’m Asian too (ooooohhhh, aaahhhhh). Great but not perfect grades (UW3.8GPA) and was ranked about 10th or so. But my “story” is what made me stand out I feel. I was a student leader in a predominantly African American HS. First generation Chinese. And I was super aggressive pursuing outside coursework and took the most rigorous curriculum my school offered.

Are you at Dartmouth now?? What were your test scores?

TE26E4 attended HYP, not Dartmouth.
