How important are "hooks" when aplying to a prep school?

to me, its the line that draws you from getting in or not getting in.

otherwise, there would be nothing that makes you stand out of the crowd.

i agree with SGUSA they matter a lot

I agree, for instance im asian, and ik there are TONS of over academically achievers then me… however my hook i feel puts us on an even ground if not even a slight edge ;)

exactly i have lackluster grades at best but my hook makes them ( boarding schools) consider me.

what are everyones hooks?

Don’t let people tell you that hooks are all that matter though. I know quite a few people who got in with no hooks at all, no legacy, no tons of money, etc etc

Hooks are things that set you apart, and not everyone has them. Plenty of people get in without a hook. Being a varsity athlete is not a hook. Being on a nationally recognized team is a hook. If you are from Alaska, you have a hook. If your family funded for an ice rink, you have a hook.
well couture girl from what ik

mine is- (or i think it is) football and Zen Buddhism proctor
HCO- I believe is soccer and being like every single race combined into one

Sometimes a hook isn’t really necessary, you’re just a good fit for the school. My hook is going to Nicaragua with Global Glimpse and tutoring students there. However, I doubt it will make colleges overlook the rest of my rather lackluster application. :/
