horriffic class rank

I'm 55 out of 170. Oh my GOD. How does a 3.87 put you at #55!?!?!
What are liberal arts schools going to think?!?

and I can’t even spell horrific properly!

i-d-k-my-bff-jill?

:S

o.O That’s similar to my school. Wow, I am quite surprised. A 3.7 is 55ish at my school, though. (mine has 450, however, so it’s nothing like yours) Is your school competitive, obviously?

Yes. It is. I hate it and it’s ruining my chances of getting into college.

Is that weighted or unweighted?

unweighted

my weighted GPA is 3.9

SAT-2170

ACT-33

AP EURO-5
AP LITERATURE-5
AP FRENCH-4

I’m not dumb. I just don’t get how this happened to me…

oh my god what do i do? i’ll never get in to wesleyan.

Don’t say that! What grade are you in? Do you still have time to raise it?

I’m a senior. This is my class rank freshman-junior year.

Do what you can this year to raise it.

Guidance didn’t screw it up, did they?

no. i really am that pathetic.

This is why I don’t think schools should rank.

You know the colleges you applied to will be aware of how competitive your school is and take that into account, right? You don’t even compare to someone higher ranked at an easier school.

top 30% in a competitive school.
huh. are you joking.

I go to an insanely smart public school.

Weighted 10-12 Academic GPA = 4.00

Rank = 139th out of 575

(About 25% of the school has a 4.0 weighted!!!)

“…This is why I don’t think schools should rank”

Ugh, political correctness is encroaching on us! Competition promotes excellence. If we don’t allow a competitive atmosphere simply because we want to make people “feel better”, no one is going to reach their full potential.

^Binders, when there really are lots of students crowded together (like in a magnet school or otherwise excellent school) ranking gives an inaccurate picture of a kid’s abilities. competition is those circumstances just promotes an unhealthy obsession with grades.

although i agree with you about the whole “making people feel better” thing. it bugs me. and i do think most normal schools should rank…
