Speaking of France - my ideal would be a Paris apartment. It’s hard to find one that’s super cool but not gargantuan…here’s one!

I may need to make that Paris apartment my answer to the thread where would you live if friends/finances were not stopping you!
Ooooo, I love the chateau!
C’est magnifique!
I’ve used that color before for some exterior doors - beautiful!
I love the house near St Emilion and the Paris apartment. We have friends in the UK that restored a French farmhouse near St Emilion and we loved to visit them there before they sold the place. An apartment in Paris is a dream of mine. There is a beautiful building that I have passed by many times near the Musee de Cluny that I dream of living in!
<oops…. wrong post location, moved to Appetizers - thanks for the heads up @abasket >
Ooops, wrong thread??? (but sounds delicious!)
House with a rotating view!!!

Well, y’all can have wistful thinking looking at a picture of “my” home (the house dad left to me that my sister has been living in the past 3 years).
There’s a reason I’ve told her she can have it. The floor is soft in many places. The roof leaks. The foundation is cracked - as are the porches. When she told me I’m supposed to be paying the mortgage I told her absolutely not because if it were indeed to be mine I’d have sold it 3 years ago. Two buyers were interested (both still are) and both want to tear it down - one for his son to build on and the other to put a parking lot on (for the town).
But she’s run the estate out of money (I think) by not doing anything with the estate in the past 3 years, so relatively soon (in the slow court timeframe) I expect it will get sold by an appointee of the courts to work on paying off debts. I can let people see more pics (maybe) if it goes up for public sale (and gets listed somewhere). Then y’all can get in on it!
ETA: Comes with a detached garage - and outdoor furniture.
The garage looks to be in better shape than the house
Oof! I’m so sorry
For the record, on the same day my daughter “picked” the castle with moat, my husband picked this one: Luxury homes for sale in Libourne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France | JamesEdition
And here is my own favorite (I am a sucker for wisteria): Vaucluse Luxury Real Estate: Luxury Real Estate Listings You may reasonably conclude that I am the realist in this group (relatively speaking!).
I’m not sure. I haven’t seen inside to know how it looks in there since my dad died. I guess I could have on our recent trip up there, but I was working hard to restrain myself about how the house looked since pretty much all the texts I receive are about how much work she’s been putting into cleaning the place. Others in the area had told me nothing has changed, but I guess I didn’t fully believe them. She doesn’t have a job. One has to wonder exactly what she’s been doing day in and day out for over 3 years.
I’m really glad I expected nothing from my dad’s estate, because that’s what I’ll be getting. I shudder when I think that the court might decide to make me executrix since I was secondary. At this point it will be a lot of work for no return - and inserting myself into a fight between sis and her son over the place he was supposed to inherit.
As far as I’m concerned sis can have it all - live her dreams. But my nephew wants his place, so he filed a court case. (Dad had two places.)
Ah, I did not really know anything about your story so perhaps I should not have commented on the photos. My apologies.
I’m very sorry this situation is causing any extra work for you after the death or your father. That’s definitely challenging and not fair to you. I hope sooner rather than later this burden will be lifted.
No apology necessary. I have a lot of support from those who know the whole situation and at this point we just shake our heads tending to make jokes about it because doing otherwise isn’t worth the stress - hence - putting it on this thread when @abasket was noting the multiple multi-million dollar places and fewer ugly places. I can fix that with a property that’s supposed to be mine! Lucky me…
If I ever do get title to it, it will be going on the market and without fixing anything up because it’s likely to get torn down by the buyer. It ought to make some interesting before and after pictures.
As for cleaning, H has suggested we start with a well-placed match and misplace the number for the fire department. Apparently that’s illegal though (sigh). Besides, sis tells me there are a lot of valuable things in there. (I’d place bets against that.)
A little buff and shine and that house would be ready for the Bachelorette set.
The house you inherited is a walking advertisement for ‘get rid of all your crap before your kids have to deal with it’ That house has to get torn down. Not liveable at all. And I’ve seen it all.
Why would anyone ‘keep’ that house? Sell it and disburse the estate as fast as you can. And if someone thought they were going to clean it up in their spare time, Why Bother? Do you think you are going to get a higher price? Nope, its is a candidate for As Is.
On another note…. The $11 million house Marilyn posted is my friend’s house. A big sailing family. That house is on a coveted piece of land. Somehow grandfathered adjacent to Point Loma Nazarene University
I make it sound like I know everyone in Pt Loma (I think my husband did) but just a coincidence that we are discussing two properties I have been in
I just finished binging Maid on Netflix and would love to see Alex get a shot at cleaning that house!
Maybe Marie Kondo can help as well!
