SO apparently Caltech has 7 houses with different personalities (I heard one is a "hippie" personality?). Can anyone list the 7 personalities/stereotypes? I'm so curious xD

You aren’t going to get much of a response as the Interhouse Committee has very tight rules on the discussion of houses, essentially saying that all members of the caltech community are prohibited from unfairly biasing pre-frosh or prospective students towards or against any house.

I have no idea what exactly we are permitted to say, so I will just say that they are all fine houses.

Except for Avery which is A very fine house :D

There are 8 houses, and they are ALL fine houses. All of them have fun, some more demanding of your time, some rowdy, some quieter and most with long-standing traditions. All have the same food, and the same Caltech support. Specific reputations of each house tend to be drawn from a minority of its more out-going members, and may not reflect the true personality of that house. More info can NOT be shared due to Rotation rules.

Just gonna chime in and say I think the IHC rules are a giant load. Just ask any upperclassman after rotation is over, and they’ll tell you their actual impression of the various houses.

You can check this page for a rough approximation on the houses, though I think some of the stereotypes have changed since. [Caltech: What are the 8 Houses at Caltech, and how do they compare? Which are more / less popular? - Quora](http://www.quora.com/Caltech-1/What-are-the-8-Houses-at-Caltech-and-how-do-they-compare-Which-are-more-less-popular)

Such one-word generalizations that are used on that link to characterize a house do NOT do them justice. Yes, some of the houses have changed personalities over time, and some have stayed. But, again, a house personality becomes known by the traits of a FEW more loud, out-going members, not by the house as a whole. But the Rotation Rules are part of the Caltech Honor Code, and do not permit discussion publically of such details. The Rotation Rules are designed so that incoming frosh can meet Techers and make their own impressions. Let’s honor that!
