Housing After Freshman Year?

We recognize that; she's considering several "secular" colleges besides Wheaton. A religious environment or mission is not a requirement; but at the same time we have found via visits, etc., that different secular campuses have different styles and different levels of emphasis on things like alcohol and where students focus their time socially. She is looking for information not only to make the decision that she thinks she'll find most comfortable but so that she has realistic expectations for what she will and won't find at each college. It could well be, choosing it with "eyes wide open" to all the pros and cons, that a campus like USC would be an excellent opportunity for her, simply in a different way than she would find at Wheaton.

Thanks for the info on Redlands. I haven't found a great deal of fresh information at College Confidential and appreciate the tip. I have some insight as that happens to be my alma mater, although that was over 20 years ago :), and she spent the night there last month and got some good insights over her couple days on campus.

My friend's son is at Wheaton & pretty happy there. The football team went on a mission over spring break, helping at a European country. He applied to & was accepted at a lot of places before chosing Wheaton. They have a contract that each student signs when they matriculate there.
At a larger school like USC, I suspect there are different "niches" & most students who look will find one that suits them & meets their needs. Overnighting at USC might be a good idea for your child to get a better flavor of the campus.

I agree that there are nitches for everyone at USC. We come from a much different religious backgound than you, one that until very recently USC had a perhaps undeserved reputation for not welcoming, and he found his place politically and religiously.

Good luck to you and your family.

Thank you, TSDad. I appreciate your additional insight about your own experience, it sounds encouraging.

HIMom, I appreciate the info on Wheaton as well.

Best wishes --

redski, you think they'll finish Parkside II by August? I mean, I've heard rumors that Webb might not even get finished by then!

Parkside II is scheduled for completion in august 2007, not this year. And I haven't heard any rumors about Webb. All the rumors I've been hearing about are of Conquest's Tuscany bldg, that it may be behind.

My wife and I are coming out to USC Thursday to visit our son for the weekend. How's the weather? Should I pack some shorts? Sunny and in the 40s in southern Wisconsin today.

You've got better weather than we do at the moment! Low 60s but lots of rain today. The rain is expected to continue through Wed.

As of yesterday rain was forecast for Saturday, so you may want to pack umbrellas in case the weather takes a turn for the worse, but at present the forecast is for sunshine and low to mid-60s temps continuously from Th-Sun.

Enjoy your stay!

It's not been good here for the past few days tsdad, certainly not your typical socal weather. But it seems like sunshine from Thursday on. I hope ;)

Eww, the weather's been terrible hear lately. Dallas Raines on KNBC said rain in the forecast THROUGH thursday, so while we're optimistic that it will clear up, bring an umbrella just in case...
