I understand it is a long shot for sophomore's to get housing on campus. I wanted to see if some of our veterans on the board would have any experience in knowing the ins and outs of sophomore housing. One of the housing options I heard is Webb? Is this true? If so, is Webb the only choice and if it is can sophmores join up to apply for a four person suite?

I would say that the vast majority of sophomores who live on campus are housed in Webb Tower and Parkside Apartments.

My son had no problem getting assigned Cardinal Gardens Apartments with his friends sophomore year. He like the arrangement so much that he’s living there again this (his junior) year.

“I understand it is a long shot for sophomore’s to get housing on campus”
that is not correct. If you dilly dally and dont submit your housing application in until the last day, perhaps, but USC is committed to providing Frosh and Soph with on campus Housing.

Sophomores are guaranteed university housing, but yes space on campus is limited to Webb and Parkside. Also, Parkside is Special Interest so to apply there you need to fill out a supplemental.

However, keep in mind Cardinal Gardens and Century are literally across the street and Troy/Troy East is a block north so it’s very likely you will end up super close to campus if not on campus.

Thanks for all the info. He is working on getting his room mates lined up and will apply as early as possible.

Question: aren’t CarGar and Century being torn down? When is that happening?

But I was in Cardinal Gardens not too long ago, and it seems like a great option. I also have some friends living in Troy, and they seem to really like it.

It was stated in an article that sometime in the future they will be removed to make room for part of the Village at USC. My guess is some years away.

I went on a housing tour last week and they said that next year, Webb will be mostly freshman housing with about 1/3 (~100) sophomores living on the higher floors. I think it’s because they’re trying to move all freshmen onto campus, like not in Century.

I spoke with my son and some of his friends are now looking for off campus housing options. He mentioned University Gateway but after googling it for reviews it doesn’t look good.

Anyone on the boards have any suggestions for off-campus housing that is in a safe area, close to campus and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?

Tuscany is down fig, and if your son is a marshall student, he gets a $1000 grant if he lives there. aside from there, there’s privately owned student housing all around campus

What’s wrong with gateway? People really like it!

Here is Yelp’s page on Gateway that had me given second thoughts
[University Gateway Apartments - South Los Angeles - Los Angeles, CA](http://www.yelp.com/biz/university-gateway-apartments-los-angeles)

The first posting is pretty detailed and plays up the both the positive and negative of Gateway. IMHO, the negative outweighed the positive.

My son is a Viterbi student and they said if he wants to room with other Viterbi students, they will take about $90 off of each month’s rent.

I think people wrote that when Gateway first opened. It may be better now. It is close and safe. My daughter lives at West 27th and she loves it. It is further up fig. Did you check out the mansion? 3025Mansion.

Does anyone know about Manor Apartments? It’s on Portland Street a little off the row. If anyone has lived there or is living there, I would love to know more about it.
