if you search this forum, there are a lot of posts about the dorms from previous years.

course registration is a big deal b/c that is when you try to get the classes you want for the next semester.

The Flat Hat, the college’s newspaper just had a couple of articles regarding dorms. Check out this link and scroll down to find the articlles “best” and “worst” dorms.

an give me an inside scoop about the dorms? Which dorms are the most comfortable?

You will get to choose between a Big and a Small dorm as a freshman.

Big dorms include
Dupont (nice, suite bathrooms)
Barrett (Beautiful, big lounges)
Monroe (good location)
Yates (fun)

Small Dorms-
Bot complex- (small and icky)
Hunt- Fine
Tallifero- Nice

Go for a big dorm they’re nicer.

what’s the big deal about course registration?

Okay. Take this with a grain of salt because this largely depends on your major (like, I’m a psyc major so my registration experience is VERY different from my roommates who is in a less popular major).

The long and short of it is that when you are a freshman you will often watch the interesting classes that you want fill up quickly, the good professors taken, or the good times full. It gets better as you get older/smarter about what you’re chosing. But there are many majors where you may have a difficult time getting classes you want. But I have never gotten every class I wanted, and I have absolutely loved my “random” classes every semester. It’s a stressful process that gets better over time.

When does the freshman housing process begin?

As of today or tomorrow those who deposited will get an email about the online Tribe Guide which will include all of the housing-related dates. Usually a form is due in June and the announcement of placements/roommates come in mid-to-late July

When you get the option between big vs small dorm pick BIG because there is a higher probability of getting a better dorm

Barrett- fancy, pretty and the best on campus, people are LOUD here on weekends no ac
Jefferson- meh no ac, average looking. it’s ok, good location
Monroe- sub meh, it’s decent but far from the library area, no ac
Botetourt- AVOID they have rabies issues and are FAR from important things, also have roach problems, no ac (this is the bottom rung)
Yates- HAS AC but far from everything, rooms are spacious, tends to have serious parties
Dupoint- HAS AC but also far from things… though not as far as yates, suite bathrooms!
Hunt and Taleferro- Often grouped together due to close proximity… next to campus center. Not sure about AC potential but these dorms are SMALL

W&M - I looked at the Tribe Pride information, but I don’t see a date for Freshman registration - where students can register for (I think) up to 9 credits? My daughter will be out of the country for a good part of July (including July 5th when the Blackboard course goes live…) so I am concerned with how she will proceed.

Registration is occurring differently this year. It’s been pushed back to Orientation for freshmen so that they can register with more guidance and assistance. They will register for their first 11 credits on 8/25 (a day after move-in day). They’ll finish registration the day before classes begin.

Thank you so much! I did not know the process had changed. My daughter has several friends that are rising Sophomores that said the prior process was very stressful and they felt somewhat unsupported - so kudos for W&M for making this change. We are relieved and thankful :)

Hello, W&M admission, may I ask where is the transfer housing application? Will the application form be available on here: [William & Mary - Transfer Student Housing](http://www.wm.edu/offices/residencelife/rsp/transfers/index.php) ? If not, would you mind to direct me to the right link?

Also, what information does the transfer housing application need? Is there a list? I am just thinking that if the transfer housing were on the first come first serve basis, I would like to have all the information prepared before it opens at 9pm on Monday.

Thanks

Yes, that is the right page. At 9:00am (not 9:00pm as you mentioned), on Monday that page will provide a link to the application. We do not oversee housing so we can’t tell you what’s on the application but it likely just asks for basic information about you. You can certainly contact Residence Life to see if there’s anything else you need to know but our guess is the application is pretty basic.
