I read somewhere that freshmen don't get to request dorms??? Is this true? I don't know if I will be admitted, but of I am I would request a substance free dorm, assuming I would attend. Could freshmen get placed in a substance free dorm if they request it?

I understand that there are usually more requests for sub-free than spots. My son’s year, they grouped the overflow together on one floor and that worked fine for those students. Other than that, first years don’t get to request a certain dorm.

Freshmen fill out a questionnaire and are placed with other freshmen in the rooms that weren’t already taken by upperclassmen in the room draw in April. You can request sub free or gender neutral housing, and they also ask you if you’d like to be placed with an international student. You can’t ask for a specific room like upperclassmen do, but you can give a preference for which building you’d like to be in (though most people leave that one blank since freshmen don’t know the difference between the dorms).

Kudryavka–Thanks for the correction. I didn’t know that first years could request a building. My son has pollen allergies and I suggested he might want to request a dorm with AC but he didn’t want to ask for any special considerations. He was by chance placed in a dorm with AC and had a really nice, compatible roommate.

OP–be as honest as possible on your housing form, especially about sleep habits.

^thanks. I sent in a housing form for Beloit, and I think I was honest haha. They also have sub-free housing, but I said that I would prefer the women’s dorm.
