Housing Form

First off, does anyone else think the housing form kinda sucks? I dont feel like it asks enough, or that it has enough variety in the answers.

One question in particular that is bothering me is # 6

_ I plan to use my room primarily for study purposes
_ I plan to use my room primarily as a social or gathering space
_ I do not plan to spend very much time in my room

I definitely plan on being in my room, but with regards to what I will be doing, if I have work, I plan to work, if I don't have anything to do, I plan to invite people over. What do you guys think I should check, or what would you check, and maybe say a little about yourself so I can figure out what I should check.

I agree that this is misleading. I checked study purposes and put an arrow to the second one too. This is not well done. I just don't want a roommate that is partying all the time in the room! :)

Yeah... I think I'm going to check the study purposes one to be safe. I seriously doubt that these are that rigid anyway.

yeah, i know what you guys mean, I'm just of course imagining the worst case scenario for either. I check study, i get a kid who flips out if anyone comes over not to do work, and then if I check social, i get someone who is constantly throwing mini parties in our room while I'm trying to work.

I of course envision the worst case scenario for every question (bed time, sharing stuff) but at least I lean towards one side more than the other, this one really just boggles me.

I went with "I plan to use my room primarily as a social or gathering space."

No matter what, there's going to be too much going on in your freshman dorm to study. That's why there's a library within walking distance.

From talking to college students, this is the way to go. Use your dorm for sleeping, playing, and socializing; use the library for work. The physical separation helps.

i didn't know what to check on the question about letting my roomate use my stuff. i don't mind if she uses my microwave or something, but not my toothbrush or clothes.

I think not using your toothbrush and clothes is a given lol...

i put study room, but an old style dorm, so it'll probably even out. Worse that happens is I spend the semester avoiding my roommate and sleeping on a friend's floor.

that sounds PRETTY BAD

yeah arfa, my whole reason for asking things is cuz i want my roomate and I to be best friends, or at least very compatible living partners. I too checked off traditional dorms, and thus went with sab's advice and said socializing. The whole seperation thing makes so much sense, even now, if i'm in school i am most productive in the library.

semp, u scared me, thought you were gonna come in here and bash wash u some more, when I saw you were the last post.

just commenting on "sleeping on a friend's floor."

nothing specific to washu.. lol, I've taken a little break from all of that.
