housing glitch

I have the glitch!

Yes and a whole new site comes up with a questionnaire about housing, like do you smoke, are you neat and tidy, do you go to bed before midnite most nights, do you want a single sex or co-ed floor, etc.

Reading prior years posts it looks like if you have it - its a good sign of acceptance but if you don’t have it means nothing - it DOES NOT mean you did not get in. Apparently lots of people do not get it prior to acceptance decision release and are still accepted

@nanddsmom this will probably sound rude but it really isnt intended to, just trying to see if this housing glitch is real. Do you have some type of hook for acceptance cause UMDs a pretty stats driven school and your S’s gpa is pretty average and SAT thats pretty far below UMDs average. Again this isn’t intended to sound rude.

I keep reading the word “holistic” when it comes to UMD requirements for admission. If the kid is captain of both soccer and basketball, he sounds like someone they has the qualities they are looking for.

@umdhopeful185 I’ve got pretty similar stats and I got the link. My hooks would be that I’m black, I speak 4 languages and I’ve started a charity among many other things.

@intentuspax what languages do you speak?

@intentuspax What languages can you speak?

It also could be in state

@dankmeme Fluent Igbo (language in east nigeria), very Good Yoruba (language in west nigeria), obviously english, and some chinese.

@umdhopeful185 Not rude at all - a fair question. I have to say if he actually gets in we will be surprised. We thought UMD was “at best” a 50/50 chance. @Kornysnaps that is what we were counting on. We hoped his ECs - among a bunch of other things he runs a weekly soccer program for special needs kids, he works part time and has taken 17 AP/IB or honors classes along with his leadership roles as captain and a pretty good essay about a hard lesson he learned - would help to overcome his less than stellar stats - but I really don’t know. Guessing the fact he is cute and just a nice kid didn’t factor in lol.

@nanddsmom thanks for sharing. At first makes ya wonder why you would work hard for good grades if someone gets in with those stats. But after reading your post, his EC’s are very impressive, and lets face it, not everyone is a good test taker. sounds like a great kid, and apparently/ HOPEFULLY as we all wait, UMD thinks so too.

@lgrving He works very hard for his grades. Much harder than my daughter did (she got a 2200 on her SATs and had a 104 weighted GPA, ranked top 5% of her class, etc and is a Freshman now at Boston College on almost a full scholarship). It all just came a lot easier for her. He is a great kid. I hope we can all stop speculating soon and know for sure.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

On one of these many UMD threads a couple people stated that decisions would be released today at 445. Just wondering if anyone else has heard that or if theyre just making it up/predicting?

I GOT THE GLITCH!!!

As per Maryland Admissions twitter – alleged housing “glitch” is not an indicator of admission

@anxsparent Where did they say that?

Tweeted today “‘Housing glitch’ means nothing. It is not an indication of admission status. Rumors otherwise are untrue!”

@anxsparent while UMD may tweet that as their official policy, based on students reporting over the past few years on CC, it seems the same thing happens each year and it looks fairly consistent that if you get it you are probably in - if you didn’t it does not mean anything - you still may have been accepted or declined.

@nanddsmom I hope that the glitch means something… I got it, and I really don’t want to be disappointed. Everyone one on this site who is applying to UMD seems to have almost perfect stats so its kind of discouraging.
