D received her acceptance yesterday with a nice scholarship. I know on our tour we were told housing was not guaranteed. Can anyone tell us about what kind of off campus housing is available if after freshman year you need to move off campus? We are concerned about being able to find housing. Anyone have any experience with this?

Great news for your daughter! Our D also just got those 2 nice letters! Housing will be a consideration for us too. We live out of state, but actually have family in S.Orange. We have been told that there is a sufficient supply of decent off campus housing.

Hi, all! My name is Sarah Blackburn and I am an Assistant Director of Admission from Seton Hall.

You’re right, housing is not guaranteed, but students are likely to get space in the dorms if they pay their housing deposit on time. We also do give priority to out of state students, if it becomes necessary to waitlist some students who are interested in living on campus.

In order to get on-campus housing after freshman year, students are given a rank based on a point system. Students are given points for their GPA and most importantly, how involved they are on-campus (how many events they are attending, how many clubs they are involved in, etc). Students lose points for any disciplinary action, in or outside of the dorms.

Finding housing off-campus is fairly easy for students. There are bulletin boards all over campus that are covered in available apartments or houses. There are more than a few apartment complexes within walking distance of campus, and many houses that get rented to students.

I hope all of this helps! Please feel free to get in touch if you have any other questions.
