Housing

what are the best housing options? which one has the 4 person suites/quads, and which ones suck

i just decided to go to colgate a few days ago, so i still havent filled or even gotten my housing preference form... does this mean im screwed with housing and will get the crappiest one? or is it all random later...

Housing forms are sent to all incoming students in the summer. If you look on the Colgate website, the freshman dorms are all described there(photos too), and it says which dorms have quads, triples, doubles, etc. The one dorm kids seem to not want to be in is Gate House.

whats wrong with Gate House?

It's actually a temporary house... built in one single summer to handle the influx of students (over-enrollment) several years ago... So... imagine that versus taking at least a year to build an actual dorm.

Actually, built in 75 days

http://www.gepermacon.com/projects/colgate.html

so is it a lottery or first come first serve?

It's a lottery. You'll fill out housing forms early this summer, specifying what size room you want (single, double, triple, quad), and answering questions like are you neat? study in room or out?, etc. Then in August you'll find out what dorm you are in and who your roommate(s) are.

The other downside to Gate House is that it is located a bit away from the other freshman dorms.

cool... do u only specify one room size ... arent quads the most popular?

You rank your preferences for room size.

hey did anyone get a housing form? im really unorganized and was looking throuigh a packet that said a housing form is attached, but i cant find it...

I haven't gotten a housing form yet.

Colgate has only sent me one thing since the acceptance packet, and it was a stupid survey. I really wish they would send me more stuff or even e-mail me. I'm pretty dissapointed with them because of the lack of communication.

relax! I know you're very excited but right now they're trying to work with the seniors and getting them to graduate. Once that's over, they'll start focusing on you guys! :)

will they ever put anyone in the alcohol free dorm if there isnt enough space in the others?

Haha, the true worry comes out!

There's a recent post on another thread by Bothwell05 - he was initially put in East, but spent a week advocating for a move with Res Life/Housing and then was moved to another dorm (his roommate too).

Hey Bibble, finals just ended and are still being graded and Commencement is this weekend. My Frosh daughter just got home Saturday night. So there's a lot going on for current and graduating students for the Administration to focus on.

Let them finish with that, and then it will be out with the old and in with the new. You'll start getting your info and mailings. Actually, there really isn't all that much to send out: two mailings that I remember and then later course selection booklet for the Fall semester. You'll soon be able to communicate with your room mates and plan who brings up what.

BTW, that "stupid survey" you got....I hope it wasn't the one that asked what your studying habits are, whether you are neat or sloppy etc. 'Cause that's the one they use to determine your dorm assignment. It's quite important.

If you get put in East and don't want to be there, the easiest way to get out is to call res life and tell them that you smoke. They'll move you out right away.

another question: if you select that you would like to live in a triple on the housing form, will you ever get stuck with three people in a double.

and if not, who gets stuck with that arrangement? people who select doubles?

and do triples get stuck in gatehouse, or is that for doubles

No no no triple would be an actual triple, not forced double. I think with the new move to the townhouses, the Res Life has been able to push the sophomores and upperclassmen down the hill to leave more room in the Gatehouse to be doubles only.
